BP in the 2000s spend millions of dollars on an ad campaign to make sure that individuals felt guilty because made up term "carbon footprint"— which 80% of it is simply due to living in America. Exxon has subsidiary shadow companies that lobby the government to not introduce a carbon tax, openly saying they ""support"" a carbon tax, while secretly knowing that the American political climate would not allow such change. for more information about these topics, look up "Climate Town".
