On 16-17 October Brussels (Belgium) hosted the 7th edition of the European Development Days (#EDD12). “Disaster Risk Reduction in the Age of Climate Change” was one of the High Level Panels (HLPs) which were being held.
Climate change has sparked a dramatic rise in natural disasters around the world, with over-population, unplanned urbanisation and poor development policy all fuelling the problem.
The HLP, which was organised by the European Commission, European Community Humanitarian Office — ECHO, European Network of Political Foundations — ENOP, Red Cross / EU Office — RC EU, delved into the importance of strengthening resilience to disasters by linking relief, rehabilitation and development.
Organised by the European Commission, the EDD is Europe’s premier forum on international affairs and development cooperation. The EDD is a policy-making laboratory for practitioners from the field and decision-makers to share their experience and generate new ideas. The forum is a truly collaborative platform where everybody has a say.
