Impacts of climate change are already being felt around the world. Climate change is endangering development successes and the poor and marginalised are often affected the most. Reducing the emission of gases such as carbon dioxide and methane that increase the greenhouse effect of the atmosphere is therefore essential.
However, even if we were to stop emissions instantly, the world would not stop warming immediately due to the amount of gases we have already emitted. That’s why we must do both: reduce greenhouse gas emissions and adapt to inevitable climate change. But how exactly can we adapt considering that the precise extent and form of climate change aren’t known?
The video explains the rationale for adaptation to climate change and presents examples of adaptation options, for instance in coastal cities and rural communities. It encourages decision makers to address the impacts of climate change within their area of expertise and influence.
After all, preparing for possible things to come is much better than bearing the impacts of climate change without any protection. We know enough — now let’s adapt!
