Researching a climatic catastrophe that rocked the Earth in A.D. 535, causing two years of darkness, famine, drought and disease.
Written records from China, Italy, Palestine and many other countries suggest a huge catastrophe blighted the world in 535AD. But the cause of it has been uncertain.
Was it a comet? An asteroid? A volcano? Archaeologist David Keys reveals the latter is to blame for the Dark Ages of famine and plague that shaped the world order of today.

Glad ginormous is still a scientific term
Might be a good idea to have backup batteries for when the Sun takes a service holiday.

And it was never climate change by humans never EVER,!
The record of crane ring west as according to this is an accurate, It only represents rainfall, Not climate change.
Mother earth the creator and destroyer. We're just along for the ride. Another breed of animal thst will come and go
There was a methane eruption from the active fault underneath Lake Baikal in Russia. At first tremendous heat, while it oxidized, and then, when it had made enough, it formed its atmospheric hydrate and started an ice age.
Goofy & obnoxious “space noise” or whatever the added sound effects are that come blasting every few seconds make this impossible to listen to.
How did climate change become a political issue? What's funny is even the most staunch deniers will privately admit "Oh yeah, the summers are hotter, dryer and storms are worse here", but they deny climate change as real, much less man made or exacerbated. Yes, climate change is a natural phenomenon but, save an asteroid or major volcanic eruption, happens over thousands or millions of years. I agree a number of climatologists are analyzing findings to support their theories but that said, the climate is changing and extremely rapidly. To note significant changes in a single lifetime is lightning fast. To me it's obvious it's human caused or exacerbated. If the primary cause is carbon emissions then I'm afraid we've already passed the tipping point. We'll have to adjust to the new world or perish. It's that simple. Looking at the issue through a political lens is frankly stupid. It is what it is.
I know a few people who wish they were born in the age of knights and so forth. I keep telling them they probably wouldn't have loved past 30. Disease, famine wars. Raiders and so forth. O yea the Catholic Church was probably the worst.
1816 The global "Year without summer (big freeze)" 3°C temperature drop and crop failures. April 1815, volcano Mount Tambora began to violently erupt. Millions of tons of ash, dust, and sulfur dioxide were released into the atmosphere, casting a temporary chill across the planet as it Blocked out the Sunlight for months on end. Documented around the world in literature.

wheres the man made climate change banner for this video
Yeah, to "let the trees talk" about the climate is the best way to go really, besides using "Ice cores" from the same time as a reference/control. None of these methods can really fool us in that sense as they are kind of "set in stone" so to speak. And it does not matter that the footage is old as the subject is more important than ever really. 🙂
Well,.. I’m not a scientist but you have neglected to mention. On our solar system travels around the Milky Way galaxy could encounter clouds in the space between us and our sun and this could happen at any time. I might add that a cloud could be enormous in size so the darkness could last for any short or long periods.

This is an example of a real scientific process. Not political popularity directed science.
Some one has to say it. Krakatoa is just a Bi..h. That thing alters civilization every time it goes off.

i am soo done with the noises in this show
It scary to think how much bigger this eruption was than the 1883 event and how it would effect the world now if it happened again.

Thanks!

I love science. Thank you scientists community.!
Timeline rocks.
You want us to believe that scientists are actually finding living tree that are seven THOUSAND YEARS OLD and that they are having these trees felled for the purpose of examining the rings??? Preposterous!

Iceland had ecological and volcanic disasters. What did it show with core samples
Yes it s so amazing
1984 cold in the US also!
Modern geology does not consider Krakatoa as the cause. This video is out of date.
The people during those days had to bin highly depressed.😢😢😢
I wish there was a film about people' lifes back in the day… How they survived that
If I'm pretty sure now, we can know a similar planterary catastrophy, but we can't do anything about it.
i love how the headlines always say humans are the main factor in driving climate change. but some of us think critically enough to know that earths climate changed many times before humans were even a thing. so until you can tell me which humans caused all that, i will not believe we are doing it now. volcanoes create 78% of our emissions, humans account for 3%. the rest is industry and its mostly from a few single countries. climate gonna change with and without us yall. dont let em tax you for it or you can pay my taxes too 🙂
The "climate change note" under the video is like someone using a cardboard paper dam to try to stop a tsunami of inconvenient information.

the climate has been changing since there was one ,,one of the first things you learn in science class as a child ,is that we live in a world that is ever changing ,,ice ages ,floods ,earthquake .not to mention what took out the Dinosaurs ,,its my belief that volcanic activity is what killed off the dinosaurs, maybe a meteorite helped ,but no matter how you slice it ,the planet is always going through change ,,one day we will wake up to the facts and quit listening to the sensational screaming about climate change its a fact ,,the climate changes and has been changing since there was one
There are two versions of this documentary, each siting a different volcano as the culprit. I love both of them, very intriguing and the research done on the subject is mindblowing!
