Sky News Political Editor Andrew Clennell says he believes Prime Minister Scott Morrison realises “there isn’t much of an upside” in striving to attain a net-zero carbon emissions target by 2050.
On Tuesday it was announced the Australian government will look at implementing a technology investment target to avoid committing to an internationally imposed 2050 targets.
“[Scott Morrison] realises there isn’t much of an upside to it, not economically, not vote-wise and I think all of his language points to that,” Mr Clennell told Sky News host Peta Credlin.
“He’s not going to do it”.
Mr Clennell said the prime minister would only be pleasing “the Greens and the ‘modern libs’” with any amendment to his climate policy.
He also said the next federal election will feel like “Groundhog Day” in terms of climate policy within Labor and the Coalition.

Interesting about Glasgow, back in the early fifties, the only time you could properly sea was in The Fair Fortnight when industry shut down and basically went on holiday doon the water for the Fair.
It did improve once area by area people were required to burn reduced smoke coal like Anthracite. Glasgow sits in the Clyde valley and fogs and smogs tend to stay put. It took me over 20 minutes one afternoon to drive down Dundas street due to fog. On the other side of the river climbing the hill towards Ayr, I looked back and the city was invisible. It’s probably better now but it’s not alone in being fogbound in winter. Prestwick was the only commercial airport in the UK unaffected by fog.
