Everything we do releases carbon dioxide, so they want to control everything.
There will be global starvation if fossil fuels are eliminated. At risk in coming decades will be half of the world’s 8.5 billion to 10 billion people who are fed by crops grown with fertilizers derived from fossil fuels. Getting to Net Zero by 2050 would cost $9.2 trillion a year globally (McKinsey). That's not going to be good value for money. That's nearly one-tenth of global GDP. That money would be better spent on a myriad of things including educating the fifth of humanity who are illiterate and represent a 7% annual loss to the world's economy. Any country that attempts it will be indebted or impoverished.
Example: For the UK to reach net zero by electrification of its transport fleet and heating system, it will require a tripling (as a minimum) of its current electrical generation capacity among other things. This will essentially require the UK consuming all of the current global supply of copper and other rare metals for the next 25 years. The cost will be unaffordable and the skilled manpower levels unattainable. And that is just to eliminate the 1% of the global CO2 emissions that the UK is responsible for. So times that by 100 for the Earth. 10,000 child slaves in the cobalt mines of the Congo not enough for you? Make it a million. Imagine all the human suffering and environmental damage done from all that resource extraction!
An electric vehicle requires 6 times the mineral input compared to a conventional one, and the carbon cost is greater until you reach 80,000 miles.
Production of all of these minerals has been mastered by China: a totalitarian communist regime that thinks nothing of the mass murder of its own citizens, imagine how much it cares about the rest of us.
And why are we embarking on this great net zero crusade? For what? So someone can virtue signal by driving around in a Tesla.
Maddeningly, there is no climate crisis. The Earth was warmer in the recent and distant past.

CO2 is the heaviest element in our atmosphere so it is always sinking to ground level where it can be used by the plants to create more oxygen for us.. CO2 is not warming the planet especially with CO2 levels only at 403ppm. If CO2 was really a problem guaranteed higher taxes would not be the solution.. Plants and trees remove CO2 and replace it with oxygen. What happens when you lower CO2 levels? Plants and trees automatically slow their growth and their production of oxygen. What happens even CO2 levels increase? Plants instantly increase their growth rate their health and strength increases and subsequently increase their oxygen production and the removal of even higher levels of CO2, plants keep that increase up to around the 1600ppm or 4 X current levels..
Simple and childish, not what I'm used to on TED.
A very selective way to control your population, only those with real money will be able to comply, the rest of us, well who cares… net zero = brain zero. As humans we are meant to enjoy our lives, but the elite are a hidden driving force. We will be forced down a path of global economic failure, where the air will be pure, be we won't here to enjoy it, well most of us…

Carbon net zero affects all industry, energy, transport, agriculture, military and political aspects. If you look on "Annual carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions worldwide from 1940 to 2023" you will see that apart from a little dip for Covid it only goes up. The reason I think the policy is futile is a) very expensive b) any reduction by the West will be more than compensated by the developing world c) in a world of political competition destroying your own industry is dangerous.
I have a genuine question. Will net zero make fossil fuels obsolete?
Pseudo science: CO2 follows temperature, also there is NO proof (models are not proof) that human intervention(s) have a negative impact on the climate – climate means the weather 1000-10000s of years period …
Net zero as defined by this speech is an impossibility by 2050 and will never eventuate. But a massive reduction in CO2 and other harmful emmisions from wealthy countries by 2050 is a very real possibility.
As an example we would have to have zero emmisions transport which is an impossibility with current technology and economically unviable at the present time. Also the factories that make transport equipment such as aircraft automobiles and ships all create emmisions.
Net zero is unrealistic hype with the current global economic realities pushed to the backburner in the name of climate extremism.
