Prime Minister Scott Morrison has briefly addressed the press ahead of the first sitting of parliament in Canberra, refusing to commit to a net zero emissions target and committing to protecting Australians from energy price hikes.
Mr Morrison touted hydrogen as a possible source of energy for Australia in the future but said he wouldn’t commit to reaching net zero emissions by a certain date before he could see the process by which he could achieve it.
“When I know how we can get there, then I can tell Australia when we’re going to get there,” he said.
“If you don’t get there by technology, you get there by taxes” the prime minister acknowledged and added he would “not make Australians pay higher taxes to get to net zero”.

If it is any help, America's New Green Deal Czar John ( I have a huge gas-guzzling jet) Kerry just said if the USA went to zero emissions tomorrow it will not make a difference unless the whole world does also. Well, Aust with only 25 million people probably wouldn't change anything anyway if it did or didn't go to zero emissions. So if China will benefit by having a roaring cheap fossil-fueled economy while the rest suffer to "save" the planet.

Toyota and Tesla agree on one thing. If gas or diesel cars were banned and replaced by electric vehicles the USA doesn't produce enough electricity to power them.
Albo should realise that nobody can commit to net zero emissions unless they have a viable alternative energy source in place, you can’t just turn the switch off.

Before people try to put the fossil fuel industry out of business remember gas and diesel are only a part of what comes from a barrel of oil. Almost everything in life requires/includes petroleum products so the oil has to be processed but what about the billions of barrels of not needed /unused gas and diesel by cars and trucks? Dump it in a river? In the early day s of oil that is what was done because no use for gasoline yet. When a barrel of oil is processed you can't just pick and chose what product comes from a barrel. Can't make a barrel only make gasoline or any other byproduct.
