Thanks to you, we hit our fundraising goal of $20,000 for providing supplies to Biabou shelters in St. Vincent. Thanks to everyone who donated, who commented and shared, as it all made a huge difference.
With just 25% of the funds so far, we have been able to ship over 1,000 N95 masks, 500 canned goods, soap, medicine, and other basic supplies. We are continuing to send more supplies each week and looking for ways to source donated goods from nearby islands to cut down on the travel time.
Regarding the status of St. Vincent, the volcano continues to erupt, even erupting again today. Over 20,000 people have been displaced. 89 shelters have been set up. There are still areas of the country that don’t have access to running water. Ash has decimated crops across the entire country. The total estimated damages to the island could represent 50% of St. Vincent’s GDP. It will take months, if not years to recover from this natural disaster.
That’s why we are now increasing our fundraising goal. Many major news sources may have moved on, but we are in this for the long haul.
We know there is a great deal of work ahead of us. So please continue to share the story of St. Vincent, please continue to ask people to donate, and thank you again for your generosity. It has made a huge impact in ways that we couldn’t even imagine. Thank you. Thank you. THANK YOU!
