Ampol CEO Matt Halliday says his company has mapped out a pathway to achieve net zero emissions by 2040 and plans to invest a minimum of $100 million over five years to develop “energy solutions of the future”.
“We have some real strengths to bring to that opportunity around the strategic infrastructure that we have including our distribution network, the Lytton refinery and the manufacturing skills that we have up at Lytton,” he said.
This comes after the federal government announced a $2 billion taxpayer funded package for companies such as Ampol to ensure fuel security.
Mr Halliday said “there is a connection in the partnership with government to help address the dual objectives for the country around fuel security on the one hand and the energy transition on the other hand”.
“I think Ampol as an independent Australian company has worked closely with government on both of those objectives.
“Clearly what we announced today is something we needed to do independently of the package that we’ve agreed up at Lytton.”

They'll be prying dead bodies from them if it came to that. Or their collector cars or gas or propane heaters in their homes. When people have to go to the john they will emit emissions. Frying foods in your own home would have to be banned as they emit emissions. The list is endless. There is no such thing as net zero emissions.

It is not hard to split water to get hydrogen, and seawater has dissolved CO2 to supply the carbon for generating hydrocarbon based fuels.
