Sky News Political Editor Andrew Clennell says Barnaby Joyce and his supporters may have been “pushing the net zero barrier so hard” to get rid of Michael McCormack but a net zero commitment is possible.
Mr Clennell said Deputy Nationals Leader David Littleproud suggested a commitment was possible when he told Sky News Chief Anchor Kieran Gilbert “you don’t start with … the price that you want in negotiations”.
“There was a bit of a feeling within government that Barnaby and co. were pushing the net zero barrier so hard as a mechanism to get rid of Michael McCormack,” he said.
“I think they’ll be after certain exemptions in terms of agriculture and mining … in order to tick off on it.
“But I think it can still go ahead.”

Australia has 25 million people. You could shutdown the entire economy and have people forage for food. It would have ZERO IMPACT on worldwide CO2 emissions.
No one can 'compromise' on a net-zero by 2050 goal. You are either prepared to lie that such a technologically and economically impossible goal is achievable, or you are not. It comes down to basic honesty. Pretty simple really.
There is no crisis looming in the climate of the planet, there is no justification for any limitation of production of CO2 by industry, animals or humans.
Net zero is economically destructive as an urgency, it is sensible for the long term when we have built all the needed nuclear power stations.
Look up Grand Solar Minimum, it has already begun and is not a crisis, but it is something to adapt to in the medium term.

It doesn't matter what people are allegedly committed to doing if they are being deceptive or are completely deluded as to the true risks and benefits of such drastic policy. Putting more CO2 in the atmosphere is not a problem, running out of fossil carbon for energy is, but not for centuries so this 2030 or 2050 target setting is 100% political and has nothing to do with physical reality.
