The Nationals are still holding out on a net-zero emissions agreement after a four-hour party room meeting on Sunday produced no outcome.
Labor leader Anthony Albanese says the Nationals are holding their Coalition partner to “ransom”, as leader Barnaby Joyce warned on Monday morning against being “backed into a corner”.
There are a diverse number of views within the party room of 21 MPs and Senators – with some warming to the idea, and others still firmly against it – holding concerns about what the transition will do for regional jobs and emissions-intensive industries like mining and agriculture.
The Liberal Party are holding a party room meeting on Monday morning, with some within the party also expected to oppose a net-zero target.

* That is enough to cover an area the size of Australia in 3.6m of water.
* Over the course of a 23-year-long study from 1994 to 2017 researchers saw close to a 60% increase in the rate of global ice loss.
* Satellite observations reveal that 6.1 trillion tonnes of ice melted from mountain glaciers, 3.8 trillion tonnes were lost from the Greenland ice sheet, and 2.5 trillion tonnes disappeared from the Antarctic ice sheet.
* Also 7.6 trillion tons of the floating ice cover on the Arctic Ocean melted and 6.5 trillion tons melted from the Antarctic's floating ice shelves.
* The September Arctic Sea ice volume declined by an alarming 75% from 1979 to 2019.
