Reform UK leader Richard Tice says UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s net zero plan needs a “referendum”.
It comes amid rising concerns within the UK over the push for net zero leading to soaring living prices.
Mr Johnson unveiled plans to drive down carbon emissions, including measures to replace gas boilers with low carbon alternatives.
“It is indeed very cold here in the UK as we approach winter, and the costs are absolutely huge, we’re talking about if you have to replace your boiler with something called a heat pump, it could be a cost of 15-20,000 pounds sterling just to install it,” Mr Tice told Sky News host Rita Panahi.
“So, what we’re saying actually is that there needs to be a referendum, I rather like referendums, I was very involved in the Brexit referendum.
“We should have a referendum, rather like they just recently had in Switzerland, where the great Swiss people rejected the government’s net zero plans.
“This is going to literally change our lifestyle.
“We all want cleaner air, we all want to reduce emissions, but you got to do it in a way that’s affordable and proportionate.”

I'm no expert on UK heat pump setups but the average cost of heat pumps runs about US$2000 to $5000 for a 3-ton system in a US home. The average home size in the UK is only about 1/3 the size of average US homes at 850 sq' so why so expensive to install heat pumps? Even if ductwork is needed they can use the mini-split systems instead.

This push for net zero is about changing your lifestyle, making you poorer, restricting your rights even more, while the elites will continue to live lavish, extravagant lifestyles. Not a single thing will change about their lifestyle. I'm yet to see any of these politicians, billionaires, or celebrities who shout from the rooftops about so called climate change give up their fuel guzzling private jets, or their multiple energy guzzling mansions, or give up their multiple luxury brand cars in the name of "saving the planet." They'll never do it, but they'll happily wag their finger at you and make you give up what little you have. This whole net zero, climate change agenda is nothing more than corrupt elitism.
Good old Boris will bring the people together this winter just to stop them freezing . He will introduce power sharing and brown outs as well as total black outs .

The west needs to replace the current set of politicians. They will end up bankrupting countries such as the UK, US and Australia. I am a climate sceptic. All my life people have been telling me that it’s getting hotter or colder. I do want better air conditions, etc. however, not at when the average person is financially crippled and when Russia, China, India are allowed to do what they want. The great US president Biden in one flourish of his pen managed to turn the US from a country which was oil self sufficient to having to rely on imported oil, thus increasing petrol costs not only in the United States but around the world. The present woke politicians need to change their attitudes or the people will throw them out of office.
There is no point in asking the population anything – most of them are but sheep, and do not have the ability to think. A structured response? – one out of a hundred, if you are very lucky.
When Johnson was up for the election I voted for his party thinking it would be a success for the country but no he has turned out to be our home grown Hitler. never again will that party get my vote.
