More than 1.3 million people have been plunged into extreme poverty in the Sahel, as the Belt of Africa experiences its deepest recession since independence due to COVID-19.
Long before the pandemic, the Western Sahel was being reshaped by climate change. Farmers and herders have been clashing over fertile land, and lacking opportunities, many young people have been recruited to violent groups.
Ornella Moderan, the head of the Sahel programme at the Institute for Security Studies, explains why.
And Fairtrade Foundation CEO Michael Gidney talks to Al Jazeera about the effect climate change is having on the 1.8 million farmers his non-profit organisation works with.

It is a false induction to condemn something because one has observe its effects where that thing has nothing to do.
Yes, there is climate change, yes there is violence, but climate change per se can't be enough when it comes to give full account to violence.
Where is the state in this area?
What were the situation prior to the effects of climate change?
If people are abandoned to their own fate, if it is all about blah, blah and blah, despair can lead to violence. But if people feel their concerns are heard, shared, that the state is present with some forms of practical answers not only blah, blah and blah, the energies can be channeled towards hope.

Climate change is an important issue, that we need to cooperate on, and rich countries should help struggling regions… but gross population growth needs to be addressed, forest destruction minimized, illegal immigration curtailed, an appreciation for the technological advancements G20 style countries often makes to such solutions and their humanitarian aids, and realization that many people within wealthy countries are being neglected by these same corrupt elites. But if you follow some lame racism narrative, or some simple victim ethos, or religious rigidity, or expect everyone else to pay for your unearned outcomes, you aren't part of the solution either.

footprint, etc. The solution is too drastically LOWER demand
consumption, on the planet which would also lower waste. This includes

Your mind will get mind blown if you see how much food The USA and Europe waste everyday by just packaging it wrong or loosing it during transportation you would be sick. When I worked at a grocery store called Safeway we would throw out thousands of pounds of food every night, most of it was just made that morning as well! I use to take over 100 pounds of food to the trash compactor myself, I worked in the bakery so it was more food then most departments throw away but the Produce department threw away even more sometimes… we used to give the food away to people who were homeless or needed help getting food, we would give them tons of donuts and sandwiches but someone got sick after eating something that was expired by one day and they sued safeway for it so we had to stop. A lot of people went hungry after Safeway stopped giving it out. It's sad to watch that much food just get thrown away.
