Madagascar is in the grips of a devastating drought, that’s leading to dire food shortages, and taking the region to the brink of famine. But can we automatically connect this with global warming? And if not, what more is there to say?

I forgot to mention… if you want to know more about how scientists link extreme weather to climate change, then check out this video I made a little while back: https://youtu.be/5cY7fSbUWA8
Climate is the average over long timescales. Droughts, floods, heavy rains, extreme heat, cold snaps, etc all get smoothed out by the average. So climate changes would be changes in the average over long timescales. Climate change is being talked about as the cause and effect here. Basically climate change is causing climate change. That's nonsense
I haven't heard about the famine… at all! That's disturbing.
Thanks for another great video. I was not aware of the famine in Madagascar even though I read the news daily. Your video prompted me to make a donation to the World Food Program.
Not a word about this and I am attuned to things like this.
I appreciate your honesty on behalf of science.
Adam where did you hear about this Drought?
You're right, this is the first I've heard of this drought, which is ridiculous.
The lack of coverage of this drought is more evidence that science cannot be apolitical. There will always be societal bias in science, from who gets to be scientists, to what science gets prioritized for funding, to which findings get picked up and shared by news outlets and other media. We must keep fighting to make science more inclusive, diverse, and better-communicated. Part of that is advocating for a more equitable society, since science can never be detached from the priorities of the most powerful.
Very good vid again, well done!
i knew about the drought in madagascar 1.5months ago n was SHOCKED it had been going on for so long n hidden by covid n other climate news. I have a tendancy to hide n then check back in with the world news n when i do, i have at least 1channel i catch up with from all continents bar antarctica.
when i found out, i did a deep dive
Its not just famine in the south, there's bandits murdering/violence, roving gangs stealing EVERYTHING not bolted down. one little girl was dressed in a sack cos all the clothes n fabrics had been sold/stolen for food. No respect among the thieves for emergency services, instead they are a target in rural areas with less police presence.
I think in the north, theyve got the complete opposite with flooding n death by drowning, but not close to societal collapse cos gov stronghold
Really love your videos 🥰 I am always fascinated by the plants in your background… could you maybe make a video about them and maybe also how to choose and care for plants for absolute beginners haha?
Thank you Adam for raising awareness on the Madagascar famine and clarifying that climate change is not always the root cause of droughts and other disasters. Great video!!
Thank you for another great video, I always enjoy your content!! Even though it isn't r er plated to climate, I am very glad you spoke about this as it is important to raise awareness of these issues. Thank you
Afghanistan is supposed to have climate change on top of a political disaster. I think we can only handle hearing about so many problems.
Heard nothing about this until this video. Thanks for making this.
Famine has almost always been a political problem though out all of history. Climate collapse is not changing that.
but also: the Canada flooding hasn't made it in the news here at all, either.
i didnt know this drought was happening
Great video, thank you.
I've seen the desperate mum and her kids on the news who had only been eating locusts for months, horrific
Omg Adam great video!
Madagascar drought and famine situation is mostly caused by resource plundering from imperial nation before leaving the country with nothing, the French, the ecosystem of Madagascar is ruined, and the puppet government left behind to continue doing the bidding of their imperial core is worsening the whole situation.
This is also the reason why there is barely any news coverage or twisted stories of climate change instead of what is really happening to Madagascar.
It’s been at least six months since I heard about Madagascar and the drought.
Adam so cool climate change is no longer a problem.
