2021 was a year of many milestones. Extreme weather events exacerbated by climate change have caught governments off-guard and caused devastation and loss of life around the world. July was the world’s hottest month on record, the Arctic recorded its highest ever temperature at 38 degrees Celsius, Australia experienced its wettest November, while New Zealand recorded its warmest.
Other milestones have carried a more positive tone, signalling emerging opportunities. Global clean energy generation reached another record high. For the second time, the entire United Kingdom ran for over 18 days on zero-carbon energy. In Europe, electric and hybrid vehicles outsold diesel vehicles, and on multiple times this year South Australian electricity demand was completely met by renewable sources.
It is against this backdrop that the Australian National University’s Institute for Climate, Energy and Disaster Solutions (ICEDS) was launched in January.
This short video provides an overview of some of the challenges and the approaches ANU is taking to develop and progress solutions to climate change, the energy transition and disasters – which are already affecting all of us.

Sorry folks, but the symptom of abrupt irreversible climate change is here to stay. "Civilization is a heat engine" Tim Garret. Population overshoot is the problem (Bill Rees). Once upon a time we humans realised our planetary predicament (i.e. fossil fuel industry scientists )
But kicked the oil can down the road. We have now a near term choice looming. Walking over the cliff and into a new Stoneage or becoming active Participants in the ongoing 6th Mass Extinction event. Or something occurring that allows for approximately one or two billion humans surviving to continue Civilization. (At least one scientist working on this for 30 yrs reckons on between 50 and 200 million is the only viable solution and has produced and published same)
2026 will prove to be the pivotal year and not 2030….
The Earth is cooler with the atmos/GHGs/albedo not warmer.
To perform as advertised the GHGs require “extra” energy upwelling from the surface radiating as a black body.
The kinetic heat transfer processes of the contiguous atmos molecules render that scenario impossible.
No greenhouse effect, no GHG warming, no man/CO2 driven climate change or Gorebal warming.

Any increase in "disasters" is purely the result of having 8 times more people on the planet than there were 150 years ago. Data proves, that even with this incredible rise in population death tolls from every single natural disaster including every single climate related disaster has been in dramatic decline consistently for a hundred years. You are (deliberately) misrepresenting the reality.
We need more fossil fuels not less. It's the modern world that keeps you safe from threats, including anything negative that the climate can throw at us.
