Former UKIP leader Nigel Farage has launched a cross-party drive for a referendum on Boris Johnson’s Net Zero climate policies.
This comes as energy prices have reached record highs, in the face of global instability brought on by the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Russia currently exports 8% of the UK’s oil demand.
Additionally, electricity and gas bills are already expected to rise after the April energy price cap, which could see average households paying an increased ÂŖ693 on their electricity and gas bills.
Reform UK’s Deputy Leader David Bull says that “real people are hurting” and “we are desperately in need of energy security”.
David: “We need to move towards net zero- but let’s do it in a time-frame which suits everyone.”

Renewables can not provide the energy we need for the future. We need to move to Nuclear power plants like the French, now do renewables have a place? Yes Hydro power plants provide 30% of the worlds energy. Wind gives only 20% of UK needs.

I don't understand why Farage / Reform thinks a referendum is appropriate here. It is not a constitutional matter, and it is not one that is subject to legislative deadlock. No referendum. Just ditch the idea of net zero.

Absolutely! All these crazy policies are going to have a massive negative impact on the quality of life of so many people. Electric cars are simply absurd – hours charging, huge charging costs= less driving ! People should be free to drive as far as they like! A cold country like UK needs to have affordable energy for heating, if not poorer people will die! Itâs already happening! Foreign holidays to hot climates are an essential for so many. The climate is miserable in Uk and they work hard all year and nothing should stop them being able to go on holiday. These urban woke luvvies are so far up their own ar*ses, they canât see the destruction these policies are going to wreak on so many lives.

Britain needs to be independent of imported energy for its own long term stability. This does not mean going back to coal mining, and the oil and gas is running out. This means a lot more nuclear and wind. There is no alternative. Global warming is real jackass.
