India will require the cooperation and leadership of its states to keep its formidable energy transition on track. As coal continues to dominate the country’s electricity generation, Indian states face a range of near-term pressing challenges that impede the implementation of a collective and progressively ambitious climate action at the national level. India’s development challenges will drive innovation and offer ample opportunities for the U.S. counterparts to collaborate on shared priorities, disseminate best practices, and coordinate action for a collective net-zero mission. Can Indian states learn about successful policies from their global peers, pursuing similar challenges in different environments, and adapt the lessons to local context?
Please join the CSIS Wadhwani Chair and the Network for Global Innovation for a joint U.S-India round table discussion about how best the subnational entities can support each other in navigating the challenges of a fast-evolving energy transition. This event will feature opening remarks from Richard Rossow, Senior Advisor and Wadhwani Chair in U.S.-India Policy Studies, and Fred Wati, president and CEO of NGIN, followed by a panel discussion. Panelists include S. Suresh Kumar, Manisha Mhaiskar, Dr. Praveer Sinha, and Martin Adams. This conversation will be moderated by Neelima Jain.
