It was a beautiful world before we let the vulgar and all corrupting pursuit of money at all costs disguised as progress destroy it. I feel bad for the poor animals that merely had the unfortunate plight of having us, a species doomed by our evolutionary proclivity for resource accrual and tribalism, as their purported protectors and shepherds. Anyone that is outrageously wealthy has stepped on the faces of those less fortunate than them by default, but now feel like putting on a show through Vanity Project greenwashing and shuffling deck chairs on the titanic. This doesn't disguise the ultra- rich's disdainful glee for those of us they clearly think inferior by an accident of birth. But it begs the question, if they are so smart, so possessed of genius and god like vision, so dynamic, so forward thinking, then why are we all clearly going to burn to death on a firestorm planet under their apparently world changing (melting) leadership and guidance? Its a painful fact that the ever increasing heat is now baked into the system and we could stop emissions tomorrow and it wouldn't matter. Runaway methane feedback loops have already been triggered and the permafrost is melting rapidly. Marine plankton are exhibiting a massive threshold extinction response as the oceans warm. This threatens a domino effect meltdown of the entire marine food system as the foundational trophic layer of our ocean ceases to exist. With 3 billion people on this planet who rely on the marine ecosystem for food, it easy to see where this is going, and those are just two of the ever multiplying threats. I exclusively took public transit for seven years, kept a flip phone until 2016, and drive a very old beat up car that has perfect emissions through considerable effort with the consideration most emissions occur during manufacturing and its better to keep driving a properly maintained Junker than buy a new car. The way this all panned out, I should have just driven everywhere and eaten beef every day. The most dire models from the 1990s were actually underestimating the speed at which sea ice loss and subsurface sea temperature rise have occurred. Its the Wheat and Chess Board problem from here. It feels a bit pointless to talk about "before the year 2030" or "below 1.5 degrees" because we don't have the power to get 200 countries to make such dramatic reductions in emissions. The best we can do is keep the process going and maybe there will be a breakthrough.
Don't worry, when 2030 gets here and their predictions haven't come true they'll just move the goal post again like they have several times already, I mean the ocean was supposed to be in Times Square by now, frankly the hyperbole is getting old.
