
Pres. Joe Biden declared Wednesday that New Mexico is in a state of disaster after one of the largest wildfires in the state’s history burned through 160,000+ acres, rapidly approaching the city of Las Vegas, NM.

The declaration makes federal aid available to parts of the state, including the counties of Mora and San Miguel. As of Thursday, the fire has destroyed more than 170 homes and caused thousands of people to evacuate.
High winds have continued to drive the fire, which is only approx 20% contained. While wind gusts were lighter during the week, weather forecasters are reportedly expecting strong winds again over the weekend.
