Fifty years after the landmark United Nations Conference on the Human Environment, we have seen major steps forward in international environmental diplomacy. And as we celebrate this progress at Stockholm+50 in June 2022, we also have an invaluable opportunity to learn from our past and chart a future together where people and the planet thrive.
Walking us through the milestones and lessons of the past 50 years and where we must go next in this Decade of Action are some of today’s key leaders in sustainable development, including UN Environment Programme (UNEP) Executive Director Inger Andersen; UN Convention on Biological Diversity (UN CBD) Executive Secretary Elizabeth Maruma Mrema; H.E. Ambassador Peter Thomson, UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for the Ocean; Aik Hoe Lim, Director, Trade and Environment Division, World Trade Organization (WTO); and Dr. Richard Florizone, President and CEO of the International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD).
