South Asia has been suffering unseasonably hot weather in recent months. In April some places in India recorded their highest temperatures ever for the time of year. International researchers say such heatwaves are thirty times more likely to happen because of climate change.
Greenpeace India says global heating is not only causing more illness and deaths, it is also leading to crop failures and food insecurity.
DW’s Manira Chaudhary has been speaking to farmers in Maharashtra state in western India. They told her they have never experienced weather patterns as extreme as they are now.

It is literally a central pillar of climate science that once heating has occurred, it cannot be reversed (in timescales that are relevant). That’s why atmospheric GHG is measured and reported so diligently and with growing alarm. The news is becoming predictably absurd. This is physics. Of course it will get hot in equatorial regions, and eventually it will be lethal. Reporting on the extreme weather is like being shocked by gravity when you drop something. We can only ever prevent it getting even worse – and that requires ZERO carbon. But the rate of increase is still increasing. It literally follows GDP. Eliminating the rich will help, but reversing growth is essential. So India doesn’t get to industrialize just because others have, that model is flawed. Europe, China and America have to deindustrialize. If people listen to economists any longer, they won’t survive.
Its not just farmers productivity, but also how much they produce.

We urgently need to initiate water foundation work of rainwater harvesting structures🙏🙏Unfortunately this region missed the water harvesting work of Water foundation which needed to complete before onset of monsoon rains.
Permaculture: YES! Mono culture: NO! Regenerative agriculture: Yes! Green belts: Yes! The answers are already available. Google and you tube how many water regeneration projects are successfulll in Indian villages. Plant more ingidinous trees, etc. The entire community have to get involved, re focus.
