The G20 as a whole contributed 75 per cent of the total GHG emissions and the energy supply sector contributed 20 GtCO2e (37 per cent of the total GHG emissions)1. If current global policies continue the world will get warmer by 2.4-2.8 degrees by end of the century. The energy transition to net-zero is very complex given the required global scale of change, disruptions to established technology, financial markets, supply chains, business models, governance frameworks and entrenched political and economic considerations.
The deliberations in this session will provide insight on the importance of accelerating transitions to net-zero while addressing issues such as enhancing the quantum, predictability & ease of financing flows, supporting technology innovation, and ensuring a just transition.
