  1. Fossil fuels are used to make wind turbines & solar panels, so how is that environmentally friendly?. Plus when they stop working they can't be recycled so end up at landfill sites. Plus when wind's are to strong they can't handle it and have to be shut off, some have burst into flames. When there isn't any sunshine, solar won't be helpful. This net zero is an impossible task.

  2. Massive solar expansion for businesses as they use energy during the day plus nuclear / hydro for base load..
Must have poor security for a country. we've got it by default in NZ as we are a long way from anyone else and are insulated from international fluctuations.

  3. Maguire is a prime example of talking nonsense with confidence when it comes to energy. We have plenty of gas to last until we have built the reactors that we need to prop up the ever unreliable wind and solar, a decades worth of fracking and north sea exploration is a cost worth paying until nuclear can take over. But as a former member of the military he's absolutely spot on about the armed forces, the 2010 defence review absolutely gutted our military.

  4. Kevin Maguire belongs in the same bucket of *hit that Sadiq khan belongs in.
    Both spineless wokeylefty maggots.
Net zero is a complete farce – unless you invest in it!
Maguire chops n changes but we all know what he really believes in.

  5. I have been transported to magical thinking land. There is no chance for energy security with net zero driving the agenda. It will take 20 years to develop sufficient (so called) green energies. Meanwhile all industries are dead.

  6. So one of the MSM stalwarts Kevin Maguire turns out to sanitise the tale of 'Net Zero', he receives soft questions from Nigel Farage (shame on you Nigel) as he makes the trashing of our way of life and the economy out to be small and crucially urgent matter; something we can easily bounce back from… completing overlooking that the UK's citizenry has never been provided with a chance to vote on whether they would like a hopless 'Heat Pump' to be a mandatory replacement for their Gas Boiler – which before our politicians sold off our Gas ownership, to foreigners was unlikely to be priced though the roof. If that sale was guided by anything like the PPE equipment shenanigans who could be surprised?
That Mr Maguire's central argument stands on the platform of 'too much CO2', being a 'Bad thing' , was not challenged at all… and there are some real arguments for such a thing to stop this lame-duck argument dead in its track. I

One such argument being that in this century, the growth in worldwide CO2 coincides with a 15% increase in the planets green spaces; which means less land is now classifiable as a Desert, and that more water is captured in plant life. Amazingly that never came up. Neither did shipping untold tons of trees, from the US to the DRAX power station in Yorkshire – the journey and the conversion from living tree to pellets, being fuelled entirely by fossil fuels… these trees were formerly CO2 eaters.  Meantime we are supposed imagine our little wood burners are a threat as the vast amounts of coal – almost onsite at the DRAX power utility, is an unusable commodity.

The nonsense involved here is staggering, far from being a shining example of model citizenship our country must be considered barking. Small wonder the Chinese and other main polluters have avoided any sign of entering into our madhouse schemes, as Mr Maguire fantasises they are going to be shamed into doing any day now.

  7. Much of the technology needed to ensure energy security at Net Zero is simply not viable! Our wind turbines and solar panels come from China: not "green jobs" here! And we are committed to do this within 27 years! It is going to devastate the poor especially
