Do you know whether that eco toothbrush you bought is really eco? Modern supply chains have become so complex, it’s difficult to know if the products we purchase are sourced responsibly. What if the blockchain – the technology behind non-eco-friendly cryptocurrencies – could help? Earthrise Studio’s Jack Harries has more.

Getting Warmer is Bloomberg’s exclusive new show about climate, clean energy and business, anchored by actor and former White House aide Kal Penn.
Accompany him on his journey as he takes an up-close look at bold climate solutions and discovers new facets of the global transition to clean energy.
In a hosted studio segment, Penn sifts through the overwhelming news about our climate and breaks down the facts and trends to understand with a dose of humor and optimism. Why are the recycling symbols on your plastic cups misleading? How does the carbon credit market work and does it actually help? And what is the future of water in a drought-ridden world?
On the road, Penn meets the innovators, researchers, communities and businesses pivoting to new energy sources and spearheading low-carbon technologies. In documentary segments, Penn speaks to the self-declared “crypto cowboys” of Texas who claim Bitcoin mining can help stabilize the state’s troubled electrical grid, and travels to Nevada to visit the company attempting to build America’s first closed-loop supply chain for electric vehicles. In New York, Penn explores the urban designs proposed to save the city from the next Superstorm Sandy and goes inside New York’s Empire State building to investigate the challenges of decarbonizing our cities and landmarks.
The show builds on, and includes contributions from, Bloomberg Green’s award-winning team of climate journalists as well as London-based climate storytellers Jack Harries and Alice Aedy. With a focus on the most pressing questions for young viewers, Jack and Alice unpack one big idea each episode. From recycled wastewater to regenerative agriculture and the challenges of a just transition for workers in the energy sector, they’ll break down how countries across the world are finding intriguing solutions to our climate crisis, and outline the challenges ahead.
Watch Getting Warmer starting February 1st at 8p EST streaming on Bloomberg channels on Connected TV Devices including Samsung TV+, LG Channels, and Fire TV. And on & Bloomberg.com.
You can also watch on Bloomberg TV (BTV) at 10p ET.

Blockchain is a scam
no
Blockchain still in search of a problem
But to make a product appear on the blockchain with the full transparency of the process of production, the manufacturer must be willing to "upload" and make available the data on the blockchain, right?
Is this an AI generated video script? It doesn’t address how to actually use the blockchain to fight climate change. Just implies that we can use blockchain instead of Google docs.
What's with Bloomberg Originals? Are they paid by bitcoin to come up with all those puff pieces?
no
Total nonsense
Massive BS
This is trash. Unsubscribing 🙄
No. Now shut up.
Blockchain… How about energy expenditure to create it?
I don't really care if the products I use are sourced unsustainably.
Actually, this is a great piece and all very true. Distributed Ledger Technology and blockchain used in this way has nothing to do with the crypto nonsense you hear in the media. It’s being used today by big companies and trickling down to smaller ones. Private Blockchains are not energy intensive either. So no, it’s not BS.
You made no distinction between distributed ledgers (technology that JP Morgan has been actively using for settlements since 2015) and “cryptocurrencies”, which largely give the space a poor reputation. You also made no attempt to cover climate projects built on DLT. This was ultimately not informative.
when there is fraud in transit : say somebody falsifies a container log, it's always at the data entry stage not modifying existing entries where fraud happens. Bloomberg falls in the same trap of saying the data on blockchain will be secured, but it's the data you put in the blockchain that is the problem.
the transparency part makes sense.
Bitcoin helps the Climate and Bitcoin Mining helps green energy. Using a blockchain for other things than bitcoin is useless. The blockchain is inefficient and does not make sense to use if it isnt decentralized. Since you cant reproduce the orgigin story of bitcoin your blockchain will always be centralized and could thus be censored. so youre left with a censored and inefficient blockchain. Crypto is a scam, blockchain is a buzzword. Only Bitcoin makes senese
New title: Can Blockchain waste its money? 💰🚫
Blockchain, a solution in desperate need of a problem.🙄
In a word: "No."
Put fake information in the blockchain…. done.
Blockchain will also decentralize the profits hence the use case is only for nonprofit
Let's see, we have solar, wind and nuclear power right here today. Why not, instead of hoping for the next big thing, we just use what we already have?
True KLIMA DAO works bringing the voluntary carbon market into the blockchain and the Regen network uses the blockchain to sustain environmental projects off chain
Climate-friendly crypto solutions are already available
I really don't have any ideas who are those chains and layers are tackling the physical ecosystem, but one thing I am really sure of, the CLEO tech is finding solutions to resolve plaques from this carbon footprint also this project aims to have market affordable computing solution in which to help brands engage with their target market while reducing the cost of marketing.
