Rishi Sunak has backed future oil and gas development in the North Sea but also announced two further carbon capture and storage projects would go ahead as part of the drive for net zero.
The Government has now committed to providing up to £20 billion of funding for early deployment of carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS), with the Acorn project in Scotland’s north east now receiving support, along with the Viking project in the Humber.
They become the third and fourth such projects to be backed by the UK Government, with the announcement coming as Mr Sunak committed to future oil and gas licensing rounds for the North Sea.
TalkTV’s Alex Phillips is joined by former Green Party leader Baroness Natalie Bennett before her panel debate Net Zero policies following the Prime Minister’s U-turn on green policy.
TalkRadio Political Editor Peter Cardwell argues that the UK will become “a poor beacon” if it leads the way on Net Zero.
“Net Zero is a myth. I don’t think we will reach it by 2050 and I don’t think it’s desirable for us as an economy or as a society.”

What does net zero mean in simple terms? I decided to look it up:

The term net zero means achieving a balance between the carbon emitted into the atmosphere, and the carbon removed from it. This balance – or net zero – will happen when the amount of carbon we add to the atmosphere is no more than the amount removed.

Okaaaay… So what are those values? Has anyone ever worked out how much C02 is removed from the atmosphere in any given year???

It's funny… I understood that the trees were the lungs of the planet decades ago…
I'm pleased that the boffins have finally caught up…
But the fact that the trees are absorbing quite a MAJORITY of the co2 in the atmosphere leads to a VERY real problem… That's the very same trees we're cutting down fast in order to turn them into woodchips (they call it biomass because when they admit that "20% of green energy comes from burning biomass", it doesn't sound quite so horrific as "20% of 'green' energy comes from burning trees"), then this biomass (that's TREES, remember) gets thrown into power station furnaces, to be burnt in the name of 'green' energy, to help to reduce the amount of co2 in the atmosphere 😮

Honestly, I'm not joking. The thing that removes a huge amount of co2 from the atmosphere is destroyed and burnt in order to reduce the amount of co2 in the atmosphere.

The air quality in London is GOOD, according to the official monitoring station data.

The reason bus services are being closed is they are not suiting the public and are running almost empty for much of the time! The Greens have not accepted the fact that their ideas are unattainable and potentially disastrous for the country! It is simple economics that if we have the raw materials we use them rather than hide them and buy in from all over the world just to say we have met spurious targets of cleaning up the planets air quality!
