Shadow minister for industry and decarbonisation Sarah Jones blasted the government’s rollback of net zero targets and warned of missed economic opportunities.
She said: “It shows the government has no industrial plan whatsoever and shows that they are happy to see decline in an industry that should be thriving.”
Her comments come as Rishi Sunak recently announced a raft of changes to the UK’s climate pledges, including delaying the ban on the sale of new internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles by five years to 2035.

Aligning with the EU on this is a good idea. Give us all a bit of wiggle room to try and get our finances on an even keel. Transition to EV's needs to be consumer driven. If something is good, efficient and worthwhile, consumers will adopt it without top-down pressure.

does net zero mean we will have a 0% footprint,i think we have a 2% footprint now,if we sunk tomorrow,would it make a ny difference to the worlds carbon footprint,are we even asking the right countries to go net zero,cime 2050,everything electric no fossil fuels,higher footprint,less popularion,no ecosystem,plenty of windmills,fields full of dead solar panels,everyone locked down,and covid 70 on the rise,a job well done.

Cuckoo Labour Policies – Competition and Market determine (energy) prices. Using less heat /electricity or anything will not necessarily bring down prices. The suppliers will simply hike the prices up to whatever they can get away with. Converting everything to wind/ electric generators will not boost your savings or increase your standard of comfort/living. Only loads and loads of competition combined with cheaper sourcing/manufacturing of energy will achieve that. E.g. Electric storage need Lithium batteries which are in short supply. Another raw material /cheaper method of storing energy is needed.
Anyone who supports net zero really needs to understand what it means for your standard it living. It goes far beyond just having a carbon free grid and electric vehicles.
