Canada has pledged $16 million for a climate disaster fund at the COP28 climate conference, after world leaders approved it to help vulnerable nations cope with the impact of drought, floods and rising seawater.
Canada’s net-zero advisor Catherine Abreu calls the fund a “significant” step. She says Canada has been “showing up” in conversations about supporting vulnerable countries but questioned whether it is doing enough to meet its own climate goals.
Abreu also suggests that countries may have difficulties meeting emissions commitments without steps to phase-out fossil fuels.
She spoke with Global’s Jaden Lee-Lincoln about what she hopes is accomplished at summit to bring us closer to this goal.

Honestly, the fact that Canada has so much poverty and homelessness speaks volumes about Canada's priorities. We want to fund net-zero interests at basically the expense of the quality of life of many Canadians. I'd rather that money go towards higher wages for Canadians, price caps on necessities especially housing, and higher taxation of the wealthiest Canadians. Don't make it so easy for the millionaire plus class to pay so little tax when they're the ones that can afford it the most. But who am I kidding, the politicians won't do that if it goes against their personal interests, which is why I'm going to leave as soon as I finish my studies

Ask a thousand people what "net zero" even means and you'll get a variety of answers. At the really dumb end you'll get people who believe CO2 is a pollutant.

They will heat their homes, eat their fine foods, travel the world on their private jets, munching on wagu beef, while we freeze, starve and are locked in place because we can't drive, fly or sail.

Again let me explain to everyone net zero is bad for the environment. To keep things simple it is the equivalent of plants saying they will no longer produce oxygen. Plant life would suffer, global warming is a lie and a scam. A useful excuse for someone to trick you into giving them money.
