Victoria’s “war on gas” continues, says Sky News host James Macpherson.
“With households and businesses facing hefty gas connection fees, as the state marches relentlessly towards net zero.,” Mr Macpherson said.
“In 2025 gas connection fees will need to be paid upfront in Victoria.
“Now for homes that will cost up to $2,500 and businesses could be hit with payments of up to $31,000.”
Mr Macpherson is joined by The Australian’s Environmental Editor Graham Lloyd to discuss the state’s net zero plan.

Administration costs are greater than your usage costs, you should all switch to electric, it will be much cheaper in the long run.
Only WA as far as I know produces gas, the rest of the states have no gas and have to import, which increases prices.
As regards the actual fuel, methane is broken down in the atmosphere to C02 and water after 10 years, it is the same thing when you burn it.
However the pipes all leak and your administration costs for something that is essentially free as it is a by product of all decomposing organic matter.
You could go to your councils today and get them with just fitting pipes to organic decomposing rubbish dumps, completely give everyone in the state free gas, they wont, without charging you an administration fee for it, as you have to manage it, as it is incredibly explosive, more explosive than your cars.
Houses have fire alarms for gas and smoking.
Want to be safer…go electric at the stove, go hydrogen for your car.
Want to save the environment, gas is neutral, but if it is collected transformed into hydrogen it will be the best fuel source of fuel the world has ever seen.
So go electric at the stove and go hydrogen for your cars. You can go electric today, you can even go hydrogen today.
Take all that methane ch4, turn it into hydrogen, h2, + h2+ carbon today, and save the planet.

There was a time, not that long ago, that gas was praised as being the best energy for cooking, heating and hot water. We had full page ads in glossy magazines and tv advertisements with some sexy body having a hot shower or cooking something yummy. It was deemed to be cheap, efficient and good for the environment. How the world has tilted on its axis.

It is very hypocritical when Victoria has huge emmisions from all sorts of industries especially coal fired power generation. People should have a choice about the installation of gas appliances with the move away from gas happening at a rapid pace without it being virtually outlawed by the Victorian Government.
Fossil fuels are going into a decline because of World economic trends thankfully with certain Governments pushing in the wrong direction instead of letting common sense and the market take it's course.
Gas fired turbines for power generation are still leaps and bounds better than coal.
And I still want to use my gas barbecue with the price of a bottle of gas not surpassing the price of the meals I cook on it.
