Nationals Senator Matt Canavan says the Albanese government’s net zero policy is costing Australians their jobs.
Mr Canavan’s comments come as hundreds of workers are set to lose their jobs after aluminium refinery Alcoa announced plans to shut down operations in Kwinana, Western Australia.
“This decision today just shows the absolute folly of our net zero emissions obsession,” he told Sky News host Andrew Bolt.
“The net zero policy that we have cost Australian jobs, and it doesn’t reduce global carbon emissions.
“It doesn’t even meet its objective and it comes at a massive cost to the Australian economy.
“It means de-industrialisation, manufacturing jobs going overseas.”

The Labor party's determination to deindustrialize Australia and return it to an agrarian economy is obvious, unfortunately they are destroying our agriculture at the same time, a typical example of the "well thought through" policies that we are getting from the present government. God knows the other lot haven't covered themselves in glory during their stint in power but at least they didn't set out to deliberately destroy our economy and social cohesion.

What Matt fails to mention is that new jobs are always created by changing technologies. When we transitioned from the horse and cart era jobs lost but new jobs were created to build vehicles. Change is the ongoing constant for example I started work drafting with paper and a pencil. Today it’s all done via computer with 3D modelling, 3D printing and can achieve details that would have been unimaginable 30 years ago. Renewables will bring positive benefits but it’s the transitioning which is the hard part but in 30 years the benefits will be appreciated.
Ban Gas in new Victorian homes as of 2024, yet sell it OS for others to use as a cheap form of energy.. Ban Coal Fired Power Stations in Aus, yet sell it OS for other countries to use for cheap energy, close Aluminium Smelters etc only to buy the same products from the likes of China… We need to look at what we can do to kick these inept politicians out from their jobs.. without an election.. Surely our constitution gives us the people the ability to say… enough is enough. and be able to legally do something about it… They are destroying Australia… Enough!!!

Western Australia will not have the energy supply to power the company when they shut another coal fires power plant. Guess we have to import it now from China which gives them jobs and even more control of supply to Australia.

I work an aluminium smelter in tas and I’m worried about my job!
Its going to cost more if we don't. But wait Alcoa was losing $100,000,000 dollars a year before net zero policies were enacted. Should taxpayers subsidise American companies. Should taxpayers subsidise fossil fuel industry to the tune of $11 billion dollars a year only to be charged exorbitant rates by companies like Shell. Canavan seems to think so, why well its in his best financial interests.
