Nationals Senator Matt Canavan says net zero was a “complete disaster” as it’s costing Australia jobs and pushing up power bills.
“If you’re going to deny yourself the use of natural resources … you’re going to end up paying more for energy,” he told Sky News host Paul Murray.
“That’s what’s happening in front of your eyes.
“Don’t let them hoodwink you into thinking that what you see in front of your eyes, what you can see in your power bill, is somehow wrong.
“Net zero was a complete disaster – it’s costing us jobs, and it’s pushing up your power bills.”

I have roof top solar and get a credit with every power bill, even after exclusively charging my car with solar 35,000km/year travel. There is no doubt that INDEPENDENT renewables is significantly cheaper. Consider Coles & Woolworths making record profits, must also mean that their suppliers are making record profits, right, WRONG.
In Australia, we need to max every available space with roof top solar ASAP.

"In the end we have cheap and clean power" No we don't because by then we need to rebuild it. And if we are lucky enough to be using more and more energy (with 400K new migrants every year) we need to cover more and more of land and sea with solar and wind. Price increase will not stop ever.

Sky News Australia are breaking the laws of freedom of expression in a democratic nation and they are breaking the rules and guidelines of YouTube. One thing are the dis and mis information Murdoch media have been convicted for in court of law, on own media outlets but this are YouTube you are using as upload media and then their guidelines and rules have to be followed. Let's get facts straight….biggest producers of C02 emissions….China, USA, India, Russia and Japan in that order. I think Nicholas Reece has mistakenly used the word "progress" when the correct word is stupidity.
This is just Senator Canavan looking after his connections in the fossil fuel sector. The AER sets the benchmarks for consumer power prices and when they set the prices for 2023-24 they gave the main reason as outages at coal plants forcing expensive gas to fill the gaps. Callide C still has 2 units offline, with one of them offline since May 2021.
High prices were not due to renewables. In fact they stated that if it were not increased renewables output filling part of the gap left by coal outages, prices would have been even higher.
What a clown this Nickolas Reece is. He uses the example of the transition to fossil fuels via the internal combustion engine to argue against fossil fuels. You can’t make this stuff up.
