Talk’s Ian Collins is joined by content lead at the Centre for Migration Control Charlie Downes to discuss the Conservative Party’s plans for a new annual cap on visas in an effort to cut immigration.
More than 10,000 migrants have arrived in the UK so far this year after crossing the Channel and immigration has become a key campaign battleground.
The proposed plan would give Parliament a direct role in setting levels of migration, with MPs having a vote on the number.
Sir Keir Starmer is dismissing the plans, claiming Rishi Sunak “has lost control” of migration. The Labour leader stopped short of guaranteeing to cut numbers of immigrants if his party wins power.
Reform UK leader Nigel Farage said it was “entirely possibly” to reduce net migration to zero which “still leaves room for special skills where we may have a shortage”.

When I was a schoolboy in the 1960s I used to travel to and from school by tube. Through the windows I saw a daubing on a wall of a building: "Labour = Conservative. Don't vote". I thought it strange then but now I submit the statement on the wall is definitely correct now. The same shadowy entities who the ordinary folk dare not talk about control those and other political parties. The shadowy entities decide who gets voted onto committees and who does not get notifications about branch meetings. They are infinitely dangerous and can intimidate anyone and everyone 🙂

For those of us who were born in the late 90s and earth 2000s we have known nothing but constant decline with no end in sight, it’s time to stop the invasion and take back our homeland.
Can someone please explain how immigration is an issue? All the reasons i see people pointing to have been impacted significantly by others factors. For example the NHS, there has been many cuts to its funding and now you have to pay to be become a nurse-longer waiting times and fewer doctors are a consequence. To add to this immigration also plays a crucial role in the staffing of the NHS. A significant portion of NHS staff are immigrants, and the health service relies heavily on workers from abroad to fill gaps left by domestic shortages. Additionally many point to crime as an issue but it is not ethnicity it is poverty, ethic minorties earn 23.1% less than white British on average. This means there are more ethnic minorities in lower income areas where crime is more common. Because of this I have found myself feeling that immigration has become a moral panic and that ethic minorities are now the scapegoat of societies problems. It would be great if you could give your opinion on this; I’m open to any criticis
