Liberal Senator Hollie Hughes has clashed with Sky News contributor Sam Crosby over Australia’s energy future and pathway to net zero.
Mr Crosby questioned why Opposition leader Peter Dutton has laid out his plan for nuclear energy and how much it will cost.
“It is not an election yet. You don’t come out with your suite of policies halfway through a term,” Ms Hughes said.

Nuclear power works, and has worked around the glob for decades, and there is yet to be one single country large or small to run 100% off solar / wind and battery power, it is as simple as that, if you want a net zero C02 power grid Nuclear power is the only way forward, no matter the cost or time to build. If the entire atmosphere could be represented by the seats in the MCG, of the 100,000 seats, at 420 ppm 42 seats would represent the CO2 component of the atmosphere. Australia’s contribution to the total would equate to 0.4 of one seat, or just under half a seat. A typical stadium seat is 0.19 of a m2. So Australia’s CO2 contribution could be represented by 0.08m2, which is about the same as 3 standard window type envelopes.
If Australia were to “save the planet” by reducing CO2 emissions to pre industrial levels, about 280ppm, at a cost of billions to the economy, massive increases in power costs, it would effectively mean removing one of those envelopes from one of those 100,000 seats in the MCG.

Renewable are not cheap… I got talked into solar panels and paying them off… probably they will need replacing by the time I have paid them off… now I can buy a battery for $12000 …. in my book they are not cheap and coal is needed to make the blinken things… biggest con since I don't know when… climate change is all about money..
Why do we all think that there are only two parties to choose to run the country? both Coalition and Labor have failed the country and can't tell the truth to save themselves! they have no accountability for BS Policies that they spin just to get elected. Why won't either party edit the tax laws to prevent large multi national companies feeding there multi billion dollar profits overseas and paying almost zero tax in Australia and therefore the people miss out on many billions every year on unpaid taxes.. Government have known about this for decades yet do nothing to rectify this but yet the ATO will chase and threaten the average worker for a few dollars. Just one reason but there are many more to Vote for an Independent party!
The truth is whether Australia reduces emissions to pre 1788 levels or doubles current levels it will make NO measurable difference to climate change outcomes.
Voters don’t give a fck about climate BS when you can’t feed your family, pay your energy bills or your mortgage. Manufacturing are leaving our shores to India and China, we are losing our jobs because our government is more concerned about 0.04 carbon in the atmosphere. Without Carbon we are dead, cannot grow fruit and veg and animal life will cease. Earth has always corrected itself without human intervention and will do so again without me starving my family or moving out of my home.
