With Donald Trump, an outmoded view of climate change has taken hold of the White House again. Great news for oil companies such as Exxon and Shell. They have been secretly financing scientific studies and campaigns, which are talking down climate change and have been influencing the public debate for 60 years.
New documents prove that since 1957, these companies have known that burning fossil fuels changes the climate – their own, strictly secret research had revealed this. But the US oil companies did not only carry out research and then concealed their results. Since 1963, Exxon and Shell engineers have been using their knowledge about climate change to gear up for a warming planet: They built higher and sturdier oil rigs to compensate for rising sea levels and more severe storms. Pipelines in the Arctic were anchored more firmly because of the melting permafrost.
“Climate change was a huge thing at the time,” says geophysicist Edward Garvey, who worked for Exxon from 1978-1983. “Exxon researched in all directions, CO2 emissions, storm forecasts, melting permafrost. And then, overnight, all research programmes were discontinued. That’s so frustrating.”
Instead, the companies did exactly the opposite: they commissioned counter-studies, which were widely disseminated via lobby groups. They deliberately financed research to discredit their own results, tried to explain climate change through sunspots or deny it altogether. They stressed statistical errors and uncertainties. Climate change deniers still work like this today.
“For me, this is the biggest scandal in human history,” says Carroll Muffett, Chairman of the Center for International Environmental Law in Washington, an NGO dealing with environmental law.
Meanwhile, two public prosecutors and several counties in the United States have started investigations against Exxon and other oil companies for deliberately misleading the public on the subject of climate change.

It's easy as looking to the sky for what has changed. The sun seems to brighten everyday and atleast here in Finland it has been very humid as well.
My time on the planet is not very long anymore. I had a good life did not gather much and will not leave a lot. Fossil fuels from some 10 to 12 thousand years ago maybe a lot longer has stood mankind in good stead for our survival. Maybe it is not the fuel that is the problem but humanity itself? Has anybody ever thought that our growth as a specie in number and influence on the immediate surroundings is the telling factor for this climate change? Has any conclusive study been produced that show that CO2 is the poison gas only? Has the planet never gone through periods of climatic change? What has the drivers been if there had been climatic change? Is this scary views from experts and sundry definitely non experts ever been subjected to scrutiny by a proper scientific review and debate with data from the environment? Our ability to collect data to the extent that we are doing now is very young and still in an infant stage of interpretation. Stop this mud slinging and behave like responsible grown ups. We have still a couple of hundred years to solve some of the issues that we are fighting about and get clarity to a greater extend that we currently have. Predicting the weather which is the manifestation is not much better than about 40 years ago.

It's true that the oil companies knew about global warming, but the facts are that they did tell some people. Nobody wanted to know, least of all the car companies. It's not their job to force people to listen. These reports are always available to stockholders by law. CO2 warming was discovered in the 19th Century. The scientific community has known about this for over a century and a half. It was published.

When my wife first suggested that dark matter might be causing climate change I laughed. Dark matter after all should be a constant, I thought. When we began looking at the data I stopped laughing. Dark matter it seems is not a constant.
Global Warming is happening but dark matter is the chicken and Co2 is the egg.
Dark matter phase transitions appear to be a primary climate driver. If the solar system passes through an area of higher liquid dark matter content the planets cores would all receive more heat due to increased phase transitions thus heating the earth from the inside out.
Heating of the planet from the inside out would result in :
Increased ground temperatures
Increased sea temperatures
Increased nighttime temperatures
Increased seismic activity
Increased earthquakes
We are currently passing through the S1 dark Matter stream which, as it is going the opposite direction around the galaxy was described as a dark matter hurricane. From spring to fall the earth is downstream from the sun. And from July to December the earth is traveling with the S1 stream and from January to June we get our maximum ongoing dark matter exposure as we travel into the S1stream. There have also been peer reviewed papers that discuss dark matter annihilation heating the earth from the inside, they did not mention any impact to climate change.

In between it was actually inside of the Alfven Limit which is where I believe the surface of the dark matter sphere that surrounds the sun lies. This would be the equivalent of a speed boat sending a wake towards the earth.
April 11 mercury and earth are in an inferior conjunction which would also send a bit of extra dark matter in earths direction.

If the dark matter spin off to the sun happens every 5 days on average and coincides with the wave facing the sun it may be proof of dark matter. During conjunctions if the tsunami is facing earth we get an extra surge of dark matter heading to the earth which also affects the time it takes for the tsunami to circle Venus. The gravity well fills up and dumps back to the sun but if it fills faster due to a conjunction it can spill toward the earth resulting in higher temperatures about 60 days later. The streams of liquid dark matter are constantly overflowing the suns dark matter sphere which extends to the Alfven radius. This distance varies dependant on how much dark matter reaches the point at which it vaporizes. (Velocity/gravity/temperature)

Unfortunately I believe man is helping expedite natural processes however we are in the midst of magnetic pole 'excursion' aka reversal. No, there is no "Climate Crisis", yes, there is climate change, no, I am not pro big oil, yes, hydrocarbons have been a boon to our planet. There is no such thing as renewable energy, solar panels, wind turbines, and batteries are toxic to the planet. We currently have 250 years of proven hydrocarbon reserves, more than enough time to find ways of powering the planet through research. But even if we find an alternative source of energy, we will still need to find a way to generate CO2. CO2 is nothing but beneficial to the planet!

I moved to San Francisco in the mid 80's and the local social justice papers were always running stories about this. A few years later, '93ish? Congress had NOAA and NASA up on the Hill to explain the radical weather events- Phoenix had just sweltered through 5 weeks of above 90°F (32C).
For some gut wrenching terror news- July 2023 saw 5 weeks of temperatures above 110°F (43°C).

The studies do not prove that they “knew about” or “believed in” climate change or even that they believed emissions would cause temperatures to increase. It only proves that corporations do what they always do, which is learn about possible impacts to their profits and take proactive measures to mitigate future liabilities. Carbon dioxide may indeed be a major driver of temperature increase, but that doesn’t matter. They’re only thinking about profits.
edit I think it’s quaint that the nice activist gentleman believes that “we own the waterways …” implying that “we the people” own the land and water.
