  2. Ötzi, also called the Iceman, was found at a dizzying 3,200 meters above sea level (about 10,500 feet). Available treeline reconstructions in the Alps (Tinner and Ammann, 2001, Tinner and Theurillat, 2003, Nicolussi et al., 2005, Tinner, 2007), reveal that the uppermost treeline position during the Holocene was about 180 m higher than today, indicating summer temperatures only about 0.8–1.2 °C higher than today.
