The Amazon, Pantanal, and Cerrado biomes have been heavily affected by fires due to severe drought and climate change
Southeastern São Paulo has reported almost 3-thousand-and-5-hundred fire alerts this month, the highest since 1998.
Smog from the fires has covered much of Brazil, including the capital city Brasília, which issued its first smog alert since 2007.
On Sunday, President Lula visited a fire monitoring center and vowed to increase firefighting efforts and investigate the fires, which are suspected to have been caused intentionally.
