How Milankovitch Cycles Are causing Earth’s Climate To Change
Climate change and the Earth’s ice ages are cyclical events that have occurred on Earth for thousands of years. However, until relatively recently, it was not known exactly what caused these cycles or how they occurred.
But today, we know these have to do with “Milankovitch Orbital Variations (or Cycles).”
But exactly how do these cycles work, and what produces them?
Can the Milankovitch Cycles help us predict how climate change will behave in the future?
What are the Milankovitch Orbital Variations?
Also known as the Milankovitch cycles, these periodic variations in the Earth’s orbit and orientation influence long-term climate and are closely related to glaciations and interglacial periods.
What are orbital elements?
To better understand the Milankovitch cycles, we must first understand what orbital elements are.
Orbital elements are parameters that describe the shape and orientation of the orbit of one celestial body around another, such as a planet around the Sun.
These elements determine how the distance and inclination of the body in its orbit varies, affecting the amount and distribution of solar energy it receives.
In astronomy, a celestial body can have up to 7 orbital elements; however, to understand the Milankovitch cycles, it is enough to understand mainly three, and those are:
1.Eccentricity
Eccentricity refers to the shape of the Earth’s orbit around the Sun, which varies from being more circular to more elliptical in a cycle of about 100,000 years.

2.Obliquity
Obliquity refers to the angle of inclination of the Earth’s axis concerning its orbital plane and varies between 22.1° and 24.5° over a cycle of about 41,000 years.
3.Precession
Precession is the slow, gradual movement of the Earth’s axis of rotation, similar to the wobble of a spinning top. It has a cycle of about 26,000 years.
Do Milankovitch cycles cause ice ages?
The Milankovitch cycles are fundamental to understanding the Earth’s climate fluctuations over the last few million years. These cycles directly influence the amount and distribution of solar radiation the Earth receives, affecting global temperatures, precipitation patterns, and glacier formation.
Are the Milankovitch Cycles the answer to climate change?
Although the Milankovitch cycles provide a compelling explanation for many aspects of natural climate change, certain discrepancies and challenges have arisen in correlating these cycles with observed climate records. The two most prominent are the “Middle Pleistocene Transition” and the “Stage 5e Paradox.”
1)The Middle Pleistocene Transition
One of the critical challenges in Milankovitch’s theory is the so-called Middle Pleistocene Transition, a change in glaciation patterns that occurred about 1 million years ago.

Why is there a blue box under your video quoting the United Nations, which is not expert in the issue of climate change. Is your point that the Neanderthal drove gasoline-driven automobiles, causing climate change?
Climate change is driven by solar activity and to a much lesser extent, vulcanism. Human activity only effects climate change on in micro inviroments.
I believe that variations in solar activity and the Milankovitch cycles are the main reasons for the average temperaturs in the atmosphere..Green house gases contributes..more antropogen co2 will have very small effect.

This will counteract human climate change, but not by much. Also, these cycles occur over 100s of years or more. So it's going to make zero difference to our climate this or next century.

So,,, how about volcanic eruptions? Say much of Siberia because molten, much like Iceland and their fisher volcanic eruptions,,, this might very well melt,,, literally miles deep ice ,,, thus causing crust to rise , more volcanic activity? No amount of fossil fuel radioactive material solar or geothermal power will outlast the Snow Ball Earth Milankovitch 400,000 year cycle our Earth is now slowly heading into.

What I'd like to see are videos discussing how we could lower the ocean surface waters, reducing evaporation and atmospheric river flooding, possibly weaken every tropical storm , improve marine habitat , insure ocean circulation and probably cool the earth and it's poles by pumping the cold water from 2,000 feet to the surface. All with no negative effects, leaving more than 90% of the super cold ocean water untouched – call it Man-made Oceanic Upwelling. Don't say it can't be done, we've put more expensive equipment on Mars!

The sad thing is that the sheep will continue to believe in man made climate change. There is so much information pointing to natural causes for the changes that are happening now. The sun is very active right now as seen by the northern lights being seen much further south. The earth has increased its tilt as explained the video. But the one no one talks about is people. The population was about 3 billion in 1960 today over 8 billion. People are nothing but oxygen to carbon exchangers. So two and a half times more people means two and a half times the carbon exhales into the air. but the sheep just blindly follow what the news media tells them. We are losing freedoms everyday and the sheep just baa along and blindly follow.
Winter is coming, and the nights are filled with terror.
Active Volcanos are spewing out far more CO2 per day than any human activity. The UN is wrong.
If anyone thinks that these well known cycles are able to swamp the massive effects of the Industrial Revolution, then please go ahead and show your analysis. And I'm sure the Nobel Committee will then reward you with either a hero cookie or a kick in the butt.

Here are the rates of increase of the global average temperature over various periods, calculated from a combination of i) the two global lower troposphere temperature series from satellites (UAH and RSS) and ii) the two main global surface temperature series (NASA GISS and HADCRUT4) since 1979, when the satellite series started:
Rate of global surface/lower troposphere temperature increase since 1979 = +0.178°C
Rate of global surface/lower troposphere temperature increase since 1990 = +0.190°C
Rate of global surface/lower troposphere temperature increase since 2000 = +0.196°C
Rate of global surface/lower troposphere temperature increase since 2100 = +0.285°C
As you can see, the rate of warming is increasing, especially recently.
b) You ask, "What was average temperature in the middle ages"/ etc
The most comprehensive assessment of average global surface temperatures since "the time of Jesus" is that of the 2013 PAGES2k reconstruction, the graph of which you can access by searching for: PAGES2k and selecting Images (Click on the graph top left to enlarge). As you will see, current global average temperatures are well in excess of those at any time prior to 2000AD.

You claim that "nobody can claim to know whether we are in a warming or cooling trend". That is not true, as my reply to Para. 1 demonstrates.
Para 3:
Rather than declare that "I know one thing for certain… […] it's not CO2" You might better remember Mark Twain's aphorism, ""It ain't what you don't know that gets you into trouble. It's what you know for sure that just ain't so." Basing your beliefs on what you desperately want to be true, rather than what the overwhelming evidence shows to be the case, is a recipe for confusion.
If you want to learn about what is actually happening you might like to consult the recent paper by a number of well known climate scientists entitled, "The 2024 state of the climate report: Perilous times on planet Earth", which begins, "We are on the brink of an irreversible climate disaster. This is a global emergency beyond any doubt. Much of the very fabric of life on Earth is imperilled. We are stepping into a critical and unpredictable new phase of the climate crisis."
This makes a lot more sense than the present hysteria over climate change in my opinion.

We have nothing to worry about with the so could global warming. It's proven with ice samples it was 15 degrees warmer than it is today if anyone wants more information there's a newspaper article from the early 1800 from Germany states from 1800 back a couple hundred years places like Germany France Sweden had no winters like today no snow and in the middle of winter meadow full of wild flowers. Try finding this happening today.
It is important that media reporting on climate change, understand the complexity, various celestial situations that impact climate change. Apart from the Milankovitch cycles (of which I am an ardent supporter) which was quite established even by 1970s, when I was studying my climatology and geology, Le Chatelier's principle is also important to understand that mere increase in carbon dioxide due to human intervention Will not be able to impact climate, change to the stages suggested by the Doomsday prophecies.
But then, like a comment earlier, there is no money in it. Period. Who cares as long as the funds keep coming?
If climate change is the threat they say it is then why not solve it the correct way. Changing carbon from a solid and liquid to a gas is changing water from a solid to a liquid right? Then change it back, creat more ice during the winter and grow trees all year long and make more things out of wood to store the carbon.
They can not make as much money from this as ice and trees don’t require maintenance or have trademarks that can be legally enforced. Follow the money.
If these milankovich cycles matched up with the cycle of ice ages and interglacial periods, this would be relevant. However they do not. Nor do the explain the heat needed to evaporate enough ocean water at the beginning of each iceage to start the process of glaciation.
