Canada is the world’s fourth largest oil producer because of Alberta’s oil sands, but 98% of its exports go to the U.S. The Trans Mountain pipeline expansion aims to change that and open up
exports to new markets in countries like Japan, China and India.
WSJ explores what’s at stake for Canada’s global ambitions and the world’s oil and energy markets.

This guy is an idiot, oil is going no where ,its here to stay for a lot longer than people think.a big part of the world is just starting to ramp up their usage.Sorry my woke tree hugging fiends.LOL
Canada has No Economy. Everything is Triple taxed and taken away. Pipe line if used is ONLY to pay politicians
There won't be enough demand for oil? AYFKM? Nonsense! AI itself will blow demand out of the water.
Justin Trudeau bungled this just like every thing he touches
Foreign countries were funding these "activists" to try and stop the expansion of Canada's energy exploitation.
You dont have the backbone n manpowerto built it n your u.s master will take you to kingdom come with their contract n you dont have local resources n manufacturing hub to built it worst the markup by those trudea dirty politician will blow up the price even higher then it can even start.everyone want their share first inorder for the project to begin.
Trudeau wants to sell our resources off instead of using them here.
In a time of climate change this carbon folly is beyond reason.
The timing of the pipeline is way off, like more than 10 years off. There was a huge demand 10 years ago in Asia and the geopolitical environment between China and Canada was much better. In those years, Canada could've exported all the crude to Asia and would've made tons of money! Not anymore!
“Canada’s geo-political standing…” 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
i’m here in edmonton rn, and the oil prices are skyrocket than toronto
Oil and natral gas are responsible for peek power
Finally. Canada gains a clientele to the east. Phillipenes, Australia and Japan would make excellent clients.
The American companies that have not converted to digesting light sweet crude will do so now. The oil from fracking in the Dakotas, Pennsylvania, Texas and Louisiana will supply domestic needs while gulf coast refineries can play the world markets for higher profits. The oil sands can compete on the world market but not the American Domestic one. The pipeline makes sense, the burueaucracy og the Trudeau government is so corrupt it has driven the prices up so high. The EV market and Edison domestic start up is suffering from the same problem.
And they are committed to net zero. Well done Canada. I wish UK would invest in our oil and gas resources in the north Sea and fracking. We are hurting our poor by not investing in energy. Our energy costs are ridiculous.
someone will be 😡
Most of the tankers that load up at Westridge are going to Washington state and California anyway. Only ten tankers went to China since May1 when it opened. The whole TMX pipeline is a fraud and a scam.
Imagine that: Natives making sure that they stay poor and dragging everyone else with them…
Petrochemical demand is not decreasing, Canada can not produce enough for all the demand! Don't even get started on the demand for natural gas, in fact Trudeau refused to sell our natural gas to the leaders of Germany and Japan claiming there is no market for the resource costing Canada hundreds of billions in lost revenue over the next 10 years plus!
Spend 25 billion and start building defenses
Every conservative I spoke to back then wanted the pipeline and criticized Trudeau for not stepping in and doing something about it. Trudeau bought it. Then they lost their minds and criticized him for "interference". You can win with those people.
So Main takeaway is U.S would rather keep getting cheap oil while this would benefit Canada and the world every way 😂
Stupid to build pipelines at all. The true cost is in environmental loses.
Foreign interests were train wrecking any projects in Canada to get oil to tide water. Most likely the Americans that were buying Canadian oil at large discounts due to low pipeline capacity and over supply to American refiners that go ahead and refine and ship the Canadian oil globally for a premium. Many foreign funded NGOs had many(up to 15) pipeline projects to the coast shelved.
Now the pipeline is built for a huge benefit to Canada and some of the oil goes to US and some to Asia.
Canadian pipelines are an economic problem for one country and it's not Canada.
"Stalling oil market?" How stupid do you think people are??
How is there even this much oil still left in the ground, blows my mind. How lucky (or unlucky) were we to have this stuff to build our society around.
😢
