Hurricane Helene tears through the southeastern United States as scientists say climate change rapidly intensifies hurricanes. The storm devastated large swaths of the southeastern United States after making landfall in Florida as a Category 4 storm. Officials say the death toll is likely to rise, as many are still missing. Helene is expected to be one of the costliest hurricanes in U.S. history and was fueled by abnormally warm water in the Gulf of Mexico, but most of the media coverage has failed to connect the devastation to the climate crisis. “The planet’s overheating. It’s irreversible. It’s caused by the fossil fuel industry,” says climate activist and climate scientist Peter Kalmus in Raleigh, North Carolina. “This will get worse as the planet continues to get hotter.”

Fossil fuel barons were instrumental in halting cleaner burning vehicles, just for the their own profits. They've even did whatever they could to popularize giant pickup trucks for men who don't haul anything. In fact those cabs are so high, it's impractical to even lift a couch up there.

This is just devastating and depressing. I've been worried about our future for a long time because of climate change. Now its not a future thing anymore, its here. Yet, half of America votes for republicans who choose the say "Climate change is fake". They will just die on that hill wont they.
If the dems shut down all fossil fuel projects the economy would crash and nobody would vote for them so we would just have all republicans in power.

COMPLETE TOTAL UTTER RUBBISH. Hurricane dynamics are governed by the frequency of the AEW system and how much solar reflective marine stratocumulus cloud it leaves over the East Equatorial Atlantic 1'N to 20'N. This determines how warm the ocean surface becomes, which inturn regulates the degree of the storm events moving westward. If there is more AEWs then the storms develop later further west, increasing the possability of hurricanes making US landfall in the Gulf. If there is less AEWs, then hurrricanes develop sooner then drift northward relativley harmlessly up the Atlantic. THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH CO2 OR EMISSIONS.
