  1. Another great video 😃 I've been wondering about this for a while now, and always believed that First Class on commercial jets should be more than good enough for the rich and famous. Or perhaps there needs to be a luxury airline service, so that these people don't feel the NEED for a private jet 🤔 Although, that might already exist and I'm just not aware of it 😅 Thank you for another informative video 💛

  2. I think it’s this ‘all-or-nothing’ mentality that prevents many people from even attempting to change. It’s so frustrating. Intentional and continuous change however small makes a difference. No one asks you to stop travelling cold turkey. Forever. Immediately. Relax, take four flights instead of five to start with. Yes, trains can be prohibitively expensive and often have poor connections between countries. But sharing a car with two other people (say partner and child) will cut your CO2 emisions by 2 without being as expensive as a train. Moving slowly often makes for a greater impact. Also, why do we all feel so entitled to being able to travel?

  3. I really appreciate how much you emphasize accessibility. In the UK, someone found it’s cheaper to fly from Manchester to Mallorca to Birmingham than to take a train from Manchester to Birmingham. It’s ridiculous!

  4. Before watching this video my thought isyou should do a video on the ecological impact of Taylor Swift -bringing out all that physical products including insane amounts of versions of the same album, her private jetting everywhere, her fans flying around the world to see her concerts often multiple times. but then I realised her batshit fans would all pile the hate on you and I love you to much for that

  5. I wish I had the chance to travel in train like that. I live in Chile 🇨🇱 (south of Latinoamérica) the country literally shaped like a line, perfect for trains that once went from north to almost the south but were dismantled and replaced with highways. I’m from small town Coyhaique at the south but I study in the capital Santiago and I have to take plane to go visit my family taking 7 hours from my apartment in Santiago to my parents house considering the trips to the airport and waiting times plus the flight and then 1 extra hour from the airport in Balmaceda to Coyhaique but that’s way quicker than the 3 days aprox that would take via bus-boat-bus-boat-bus to get there and when I got only one week break to see my family I can’t expend 6days traveling to only have one day in my home. And the plane tickets get expensive to like <$100 usd for ticket in the holidays but that is because it’s basically the only option to get there “quickly “ and that some people could take a 2hour train to get from one country to another and also an island and choose not to it just pisses me off added upon the pollution part

  6. I wish the US had excellent trains and public transit like much of Europe does 😭 I can only dream of a day when we are fed up with cars and air travel and actually build the infrastructure Americans need

  7. Love the nuance in this video! I'm an American trapped in a country with no good trains… 😭 But flying has always felt like a privilege, and with an average of one out-and-back flight a year (sometimes leisure, sometimes to see family across the country), I try not to guilt myself too much. I have travel anxiety too, but I LOVE exploring new places, so balance is the vibe here. 🌈

  8. I think there are still political situations where it is important for people to have a face to face conversation instead of a digital one because you transfer so much more through body language and behavior than you do through a camera. However it isn't necessary for every politician to take a private jet to fly to a meeting, they could also take the train, bus, a car or use public flights. Sure the security aspect has to be kept in mind which is probably one of the reasons they use private jets but humans are creative, they sure find a solution that's more environmental friendly and meets security standards.

  9. I try to be really conscious of my travel choices but I live in the UK and my dad is in Australia… Not sure a train journey to see him is realistic 😂 It's one of the situations where I have to be a bit kind to myself I think

  10. As an environmentalist who loves travelling, I am done feeling guilty. I travel at most twice a year. Once on location, I use cars or trains. I literally do everything I can for the planet, except I travel long distance in planes, because the places I want to see are all an ocean away from me. I think it's important to push for the industry to change. As individuals, we deserve to travel for vacation too.

  11. I have never flown on an airplane. Little did I know, until this past year, I was being a hardcore environmentalist my whole life lol! Seriously, flying is on my bucket list. And when I do fly it will be VERY intentional (and long overdue!)

  12. I'm a uni student so I wouldn't going on big holidays far away anyway, but I went to a concert in tallinn last year. took the train from the city I live in to helsinki, took the ferry to tallinn, and it wasn't super expensive AND it's such a fast ferry ride! sometimes it feels annoying to live in finland considering you do have to take the ferry if you want to go to any other country than sweden or norway, but at least the ferry rides to stockholm and tallinn are super popular!

  13. Thanks for this, and yes to every single point you made. This is honestly something that contributes to my climate anxiety: the fear of disappointing/not meeting my (admittedly quite rigorous) expectations of what my life as an environmentalist should look like. But as you said – there's no perfect environmentalist. There never has been, i'm not perfect right now and i will continue to be very much imperfect. But i will also continue to try my hardest.

  14. Thank you for the nuance in this, it’s very important. I live on a small island, so for me to literally go anywhere, will always include a flight to start with. As well as the fact the person I love is long distance and can take 2-3 flights to reach him. It’s not something I can give up but I hope to improve sustainable areas of my life to make up for that bit. ❤

  15. I have beaten myself up so much about plane travel. I also swore off plane travel and then had to fly for a conference and the shame was intense. I have reached a similar position to you, thank you for articulating your feelings.
