Former Deputy Secretary of the Department of Energy Dan Poneman, now Senior Fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations and Senior Fellow at the Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs at Harvard’s Kennedy School, explains how the enormous energy demands of AI have worked a resurrection of the nuclear power industry.

The first question anyone should ask someone who claims climate change is one of the biggest issues of our time is "So you support massively increasing our nuclear power capabilities, right?" If they say no, they aren't serious.
What about licensing it for commercial shipping? Seems like an opportunity no one has mentioned.
The climate crisis LOL
About a quarter century ago, based on tonnage of atmospheric gasses and their effects, 'we' knew that the percent of greenhouse effect that was human-caused, when water vapor was taken into effect, which is about 99.999% of natural origin, was about 1/4 of 1% and I've yet to come across a catastrophic climate hysterian who either knows or cares about that number. You can't build a giant dam without altering the spin of Earth, but it isn't a significant amount. You can't build a house in the woods without 'exploiting' a spot for yourself and probably removing a few trees. They grow back, or all our forests would be gone. I"ve personally planted about half a million, which took several years. Technically, you can't even walk to the fridge without altering the spin of Earth, just not enough to measure or matter. We're part of nature, too, and it's okay to not hate ourselves. National, cultural and literal self-loathing isn't virtuous or 'saving the planet'. There's a guy formerly of SpaceX who's doing great work on small and micro truck and air-deliverable nuclear power, and emerging systems are so advanced that they require no personnel and feature meltdown-proof, uneventful self-shutdown for any significant malfunctions.
The problem with SMRs is the civil works increase the cost per watt.
Epstein Island regular, Bill Gates?
How old is that picture of Mr. Poneman? 30 40 years.
This is one of the more Interesting Interviews regarding the Energy Industry I have listened to in a Longtime.
Our Country cannot realistically rely on Solar Panels and Windmills for the Majority of our energy needs, contrary to what the Liberal Left would like us to believe.
Great show, Hugh! Thank you!
Nuclear power is not back. We have developed a new generation of new reactors based on research funded during the Obama years. We could never increase the scale of the old style reactors and need to close them down.
What are the best resources to learn about SMR types, their pros and cons?
