British Foreign Secretary David Lammy stated on Saturday that businesses are seeking “stability and clarity” in trade with China, as the UK works to improve relations with Beijing under the new Labour government.
Following a meeting with Lammy, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said that bilateral ties are now “at a new starting point” and that major power competition should not define the current era.
Over the past decade, the UK’s stance on China has shifted from strong support to sharp criticism, and now to efforts at rebuilding ties.
