Call for zero-emission zones in cities to drive electric van adoption
Charging downtime costing fleets eight times more than the electricity
Both from Fleet News. Another super serious video from Geoff Buys Cars

fun video this, let me know what you think.. what's the best way to waste work time and get paid for it? charging, or having a poo at work?
I spoke to an eon next driver last week and he said he spent half an hour a day getting paid while charging his van … mental .. no wonder there prices are so high
"You shouldn't take the piss out of water. Wish to god somebody would" – Jasper Carrot.
When i did fleet, the drivers would fill up at the end of the day, there was a petrol station at the top of the road and the 5/10 minutes it took many that the vehicles were all ready to go first thing in the morning
Some of our sprinters would do 800 miles a day, 6 days a week
We'd fill our mk7 transits at least twice a week and they were doing in excess of 800 miles a week just around London
Downtime for fueling was minimal because no one could afford to pay 200+ people an hour a day, 6 days a week
Even if you do the basic maths at £10/h that's £62.4k a year just to fill up 🤦
As we’ve all said and I’ve told people many times – buying a new and expensive ULEZ compliant van won’t be enough, next you’ll be expected to fork out for an EVen more expensive and useless electric van.
Excellent video 🤣🤣🤣👍❤️
I was a van courier and the saying is if the wheels are not turning then your not earning. I was also a blood runner, no way I could stop to charge up. I made sure I had a full tank to get to the Hospitals.
I did about 100 miles a day when I was in a van, it meant that I had to fill up once a week at most taking all of 5 mins…..
Multi drop drivers and plenty of other people do many more than 100 miles a day.
There’s a guy here who runs an airport taxi service to Heathrow Stanstead and Gatwick, his business is designed around 3 or 4 trips per day the closest of those is 100 miles round trip. How will he do that in an EV?
Sounds like all van drivers live in a house with off road parking?
And less stabby streets.😊
I was at a Ford outlet recently getting some work done. Got chatting to staff about EV’s and was told to steer clear. They had a transit in belonging to Sky TV, two year old, cost £30,000 for new battery. Have special areas in the workshop away from other vehicles because of fire risk, nobody other than mechanic working on the EV allowed anywhere near it while on the ramp…
In Amsterdam various trades won't enter the city anymore because the woke council banned diesel vans 😂
I sat watching not being paid by anyone. After becoming increasingly angry about how the government wasted my tax money, i did the sums and retired at 52 with the resolve to never pay income tax for the rest if my life.
As we’ve all said, if they worked then people would (slowly) adopt them and no one would be scheming as to how best to penalise people into them.
These net zero twirps have no idea , and no one mentions that the range on every one of those battery powered vans will degrade As will the already pitiful range as time goes on.
As an ex fleet driver , it’s pretty obvious these companies will need to buy even more electric vans just to cover the times when some vans are not operational due to being charged, and given the vans are already more expensive than petrol or diesel powered vans , there’s absolutely no doubt to do the same job as the old ICE powered vans, it will cost more to run .
And I would also say I suspect the service life of the electric vans will be significantly shorter than the ice powered models adding even more cost.
Dunno why they don't make commercial EVs with swap-out battery packs so that the whole van isn't immobilised while charging. The spare battery could be recharging while the van is driving around then.
BT and open reach have a number of eleccy vans. I see them charging at public chargers, I assume they are getting paid to stand around. Why have BT not installed chargers at their telephone exchanges so they can charge vans overnight? I wonder…… Fires? Who knows?
And the 1st advert was for the Transit Custom EV 🤣🤣🤣
Just how many quangos exist in the UK sucking up public money?
An acquaintance that works as a mechanic at a Mercedes commercial dealer says there are always lots of electric Sprinter vans in their yard awaiting repair
I spoke with a taxi driver in London the other day. He'd changed to an electric taxi after having to give up his old diesel. He said he liked it, but as he couldn't charge it at home, he was stopping at a charging station on the way in each morning to fill up. I asked how it was going and he said it was fine, but he'd put on 3 stone from the coffees and pastries he eats as it charges!!!
I used to drive 200 miles a day on average with a van full of kit, usually through the Borders, in all weathers.
Geoff you do not seem to take the environMENTAL subject seriously
We are being "encouraged" to spec EV Vans as we replace our fleet. The drivers have stops during the day to make appointments and update their IPads .. so that time is being allotted as productive and can be done at a charger. Even if they had to take separate time in the day to charge, I had calculated it as around £4,000 a year per asset of non-productive time
If company's stop paying employees to set well charging there vehicles I believe the economy would collapse, Geoff less do a podcast together and I explain how.
Nice one Geoff 👍 👌
When pushing all this green parc, its always "with the right incentives in place". If it worked, it wouldn't need "incentives".
here in france no matter how fast you drive a white van will be trying to pass
Poo and Charge, my new company😊
I’m looking forward to the government to bring this in for HGVs… sorry gov I need to spend 4 hours charging my 18t or 32t lorry 😅😅😅
What planet are these people on? They obviously don’t work for a living.
It is time the taxpayer stoped subsidising TVs
What planet are these people on? They obviously don’t work for a living. 20 years ago, they stop paying HGV drivers with a 45 minute break so they should stop paying van drivers. For charging time
As you admitted, you love to hate EVs. . . and I suspect renewable energy
When you hate something you will believe any negative thing that you hear about that with which you hate without fact checking
Too bad that you cannot, will not see that many complaints against EVs are actually general car, maker, or model problems and are not really an EV issue with the drive train and battery issues, besides a few as compared to the hundreds of the ICE drive train
It's a shame that you cannot, will not see the that the internal combustion engine has no progress left in it whereas the EV drive trains has a lot of room to advance
Just had my boiler serviced by British Gas. He had an electric van with a home charger. His college hadn't got a home charger and had to spend his 1st hour of every working day charging.
I was looking at a huge long wheelbase Sprinter van at an exhibition recently and concluded that its 1 tonne payload was well suited to transporting expanded foam or maybe bread.
I would sell my electricity on the streets! I would need to hang a extension cord out of the window though…
Years ago there used to be a female clerk who would arrive at work 6.30am every day ready for the days shift in the office when everyone else started at 8am.
It was only when I had been working all night in the office once that I noticed why.
She would arrive at 6.30 looking an absolute mess, hair astray, no makeup and wearing tracksuit t-shirt trainers etc.
She would then go into the women’s bathroom and come out over an hr later all dolled up looking fantastic.
On paper she was doing all these unpaid extra hrs but in reality she was doing all of her personal needs at work.
Just another way the authoritys get more money out of you…. Might be cheaper to pay the fine, and keep your diesel van
How many miles will those EV's do when fully loaded?
I drove a 44 ton petrol tank carrying up to 42,000 litres of fuel.
Someone suggested that a EV truck would be able to make truck greener.
Being as the regulations require the vehicle to isolate its electrics whilst loading and delivering.
The risk factor is exponentially increased if it’s a EV.
Climax Change
I used to know a guy who only pooed at work. He would save it till he got to work.
It’s easier to fool people than convince them they have been fooled…it’s a cult🤷♂️
Even a pedal bike isn't zero emissions. It still causes pollution to produce it. These people, who are controlling our lives, are beyond insane. They should all be sectioned. They are pulling us all off a cliff.
