This is why Odisha is better than any other district.
Unlike every year the eastern area of India faces natural disasters now and then. Similarly this year, the coastal Odisha region was hit by Cyclone Dana. But, Odisha has been secured because of its disaster management strategies.
After facing a terrible supercyclone in 1999, Odisha took crucial steps. It has only one goal – zero human casualties.
Firstly the Odisha State Disaster Management Authority has been established.
The state has built siren towers for early warning of cyclones or any disaster.
The government educated and trained several people including gram panchayats, women’s self-help groups and more than 1 lakh group of volunteers to manage rescue and relief operations.
The state governments built many disaster resilient infrastructures to help the locals. The district has over 800 multi-purpose cyclone shelters. Even the state has disaster response force (ODRAF) to ensure swift action.
