Is this the budget we were promised by Labour? And where will the fallout be for the government in the days and weeks to come?
On the day after the first Labour budget in nearly 15 years – and the first ever delivered by a woman – Beth, Ruth and Harriet unpick the numbers and explain why the critics are so upset.
They also lift the lid on budget week in Westminster – how do cabinet ministers find out how much money their departments are getting? And how does the leader of the opposition prepare their response?
Later, Ruth finally reveals who she’s voted for in the Tory leadership race. Email us at electoraldysfunction@sky.uk (https://sky.uk) , post on X to @BethRigby, or send a WhatsApp voice note on 07934 200 444

“Rachel has absolutely smashed it” Indeed, and we will be picking up the pieces for a long time.
what's this dysfunction about starmer ?
Yes
Overall i think its a decent budget, things have to be paid for somehow after 14 years of chronic neglect
Bossed it or bust it
The attack on the farmers, is right out of the communist manifesto.
No, next!
Harriet hardly got a meaningful word in whilst Davidson just gaslit and lied her way through this whole podcast.
Why didn't Labou then articulate what Johnson said? So then it wasn't really their fault, irrespective of the manifesto. Starmer hasn't handled things well thus far. but there is still time until the next election.
commie land grab, pure and simple!
Politically this budget has been a disaster. I am a Labour supporter but they lied to the electorate. They did not make it clear what they would do. Corbyn did make it clear and received a canning at the polls.
First 1 or 2 episodes with HH were terrible because she was too stuck in holding the party line mode, like she was in media interview. I turned off. Went back after avoiding a few episodes and saw she had clearly rectified that and had a better understanding of the (pod) medium she was joining and her takes were much more interesting and insightful because of that. Then I listened to this weeks episode on the budget: absolutely awful. Totally reverted to that former 'on message' mode, even when very politely confronted with evidence (what they said/didn't say in the campaign) by Beth. Awful. Retreating to her default entrenched former career mode with defensive party line bollox (and I am a Labour voter, usually). No point in having her on as a fellow presenter if she is going to do that. It is NOT what a podcast is for, maybe ok for a guest interviewee but NOT for a presenter. Move her on Beth.
