the private sector did a lot of this to themselves. they raised prices far higher than they should have and priced people out of the industries. the companies that didnt raise prices like crazy are actually reporting pretty healthy profits. so while yes it is fair to put blame on the biden administration for spending like the world is going to end, it's also opportunist and speculators in the private sector that are to blame for this mess.

For over a decade, I have been trying to push a way to fix Education. With over two decades working with Education Administration from K-12 and post-secondary, I know it can be done and how. I know it can because of three decades of being in I.T. (a lot of overlap), especially in Education Technology. My proposal will not only reduce costs, but incredibly improve scores, get student's better matched to what they want to do and can do, and build the infrastructure to facilitate the next big thing (and just make the U.S. better). Of course, no one considers it because I must be an education hater, I am a nobody (who develops state-wide curriculum?), and it drastically reduces union/political interference/need (while building better safe guards for teachers, what?!). But, until America collapses or someone like Trump/Vivek gets into place, it will not happen. Too much political infrastructure built on the failing and expensive current model.

Replacing income tax with tariffs wholesale… what can go wrong (and why it doesn't work). Company A get %x added to cost of product. Company A does math. Would producing it locally cost less than current price plus new tariff? If yes, go local. If no, up the price to make up for the difference and keep going. Would they have gone out of the country if they could? This is part 1, now part 2. What happens when discretionary funds are (more) available? Yes, prices go… UP. More inflation. And you still haven't dealt with the root cause of the problem. Government spending. Until you deal with that, everything else is nothing but shifting numbers around.
The problem will always be that no simple solution will ever make it. You have to hit it on several fronts at the same time. Trim gov spending, ease tax income, increase (some) tariffs, regulate (some) prices, etc… Problem with that is, you piss EVERYONE off at the same time. Making pretty sure you DON'T get elected again.
If you think I'm being too harsh, several countries in Europe have been on this on/off the wagon cycle for DECADES. Hard line administration makes the cuts and all that jazz, people get pissed, next administration puts it all back, economy/social goes to s**t, next hard line administration, wash rinse repeat.
Oh, and btw, if that "must do lots of adjustments at same time" sounds more or less what a centrist gov would do, well, it's because it is just that. And when did you see a centrist gov last get elected? Right… because democracy is about letting every bumbling idiot vote, even if that's against their own best interests…
