They were not shouting or throwing mud at the king, but at Pedro Sanchez the prime minister of Spain and Carlos Mazon the President of Valencia. All the anger was aimed at the politicians. The source of this original headline which is in error spreading around the world is the state funded Spanish press, protecting the public image of their boss, Sanchez.

The Spanish Royal House has no competences attributed in this. All the powers are of the Central Government, which has looked the other way and has refused to send all the resources and instruments of the State necessary to alleviate this catastrophe. The boos and insults were not for the King, they were for President Pedro Sánchez, who fled from this situation. This for those who really want to know the real situation we live in Spain at the moment.
The King in Spain has no powers attributed to this. He cannot command the army, or any recourse. The competences are of the Central State
The Guardian should report on the entire event. The main ire of the crowd was directed towards the prime minister Pedro Sanchez, who fled the scene while sticks were thrown at him and people attacked his car. The king was able to stay because he was not the main object of hatred of the crowd as he is mainly a figurehead. Political angling between the national government led by the PSOE and the regional government led by the PP has led to a devasting delay the in arrival of military aid and fire departments from other regions, and the chants of the crowd clearly state that their beef is with Sanchez. It should also be noted the the huge convoy of SUVs for the visit was a magnificent display of political entitlement, as they arrived empty-handed when said vehicles should have also been filled to the brim with material aid during the visit. On a final note, the visit of the heads of state also blocked the arrival of aid for several hours due the security reasons.
