It was reported that on October 29, 2024 a low-pressure area brought heavy rain over eastern Spain dumping torrential rain equivalent to a year in the communities of Valencia, Castilla-La Mancha and Andalucia. This resulted in enormous flash floods destroying roads, bridges, houses, and carrying hundreds of cars along the way. At least 220 people were killed, and billions of US dollars worth of damaged and lost properties. This is one of the deadliest and costliest natural disasters in Spain in modern times.
Many states that climate change has contributed to this disaster.
One side of the coin (Euro 5 cents, Spain, 1999) has the image of Santiago de Compostela Archcathedral Basilica located in Galicia, Spain. St. James the Great, one of the apostles of Jesus Christ was believed to have been buried in the Basilica.
