The Veilguard stand as one of the most enigmatic and essential forces in Thedosian history, yet their existence remains shrouded in mystery and debate among scholars. Dating back to the ancient times before the fall of Arlathan, these specialized warriors and mages dedicated their lives to maintaining the integrity of the Veil—the metaphysical barrier separating the world of mortals from the Fade.
Unlike the more widely known Templar Order, who focus primarily on controlling mages and fighting magical threats, the Veilguard possessed a deeper understanding of the Veil’s nature and the delicate balance it maintains. Their practices combined elements of both ancient elven magic and techniques developed after the creation of the Veil itself, making them unique among Thedas’ magical traditions.
The origins of the Veilguard trace back to the aftermath of Fen’Harel’s creation of the Veil. As the world adjusted to this fundamental change in its magical nature, certain individuals recognized the need for specialized guardians to monitor and maintain this new barrier. These early Veilguard drew upon both ancient elven wisdom and emerging human magical traditions, developing techniques to sense disturbances in the Veil and mend its weaknesses before they could become tears.
What sets the Veilguard apart from other magical practitioners is their intimate connection to the Veil itself. Through rigorous training and ancient rituals, they develop an almost symbiotic relationship with the barrier, allowing them to perceive its subtle fluctuations and respond to threats before they manifest. This heightened awareness comes at a cost, however, as many Veilguard report experiencing persistent echoes of the Fade in their waking hours, and some struggle to maintain a clear distinction between the physical world and the realm of spirits.
The traditional armament of a Veilguard reflects their unique role. They typically carry specially crafted staves or weapons imbued with lyrium and enchanted to respond to Veil disturbances. Their armor often incorporates symbols and runes designed to strengthen their connection to the Veil while providing protection from both physical and magical threats. Most distinctive are their veridium-infused gauntlets, said to allow them to physically interact with the Veil’s essence.
Training to become a Veilguard requires years of dedicated study and practice. Candidates must master not only conventional magic but also develop an understanding of the Veil’s architecture and the complex relationships between spirits, demons, and the physical world. This knowledge is passed down through an oral tradition, with experienced Veilguard taking on apprentices and sharing closely guarded secrets that have been preserved since the Veil’s creation.
The Veilguard’s role in major historical events often goes unrecognized, as they prefer to work in secret, preventing disasters before they occur. During the Fifth Blight, they worked tirelessly to prevent demons from exploiting the weakened Veil that accompanied the darkspawn invasion. Their efforts during the Mage-Templar War were similarly crucial, as they struggled to maintain the Veil’s stability amid widespread magical conflict.
In the present day, the Veilguard face perhaps their greatest challenge yet. With the Veil showing signs of increasing instability and ancient forces threatening its very existence, their mission has never been more vital. Yet their numbers have dwindled over the centuries, and much of their ancient knowledge has been lost or fragmented. Those who remain must balance their traditional duties with the need to adapt to a changing world and find new ways to protect the barrier between worlds.
The legacy of the Veilguard serves as a reminder of the complex and often overlooked aspects of Thedas’ magical heritage. Their dedication to maintaining the Veil, often at great personal cost, highlights the continuing importance of understanding and preserving the delicate balance between the physical world and the Fade. As Thedas faces an uncertain future, the role of these mysterious guardians may prove more crucial than ever in safeguarding the world from the dangers that lurk beyond the Veil.

I'm in left wing and i support LGBTQ . Dragon Age is forcing it's own thoughts in a wrong way. How to make an amazing game and give the LGBTQ community the right to be represented in an awesome way? Check Borderlands 1,2,3 always on the right side FROM the first game back in 2009! Not now trying to get LGBTQ clients.
Gender dysphoria is no joke. Imagine that everything that what your loved ones tell you is real is actually false. This is not easy to deal with so when I see these cartoon depictions I am disturbed and offended. It's pitiful that industires use a person's strugles in such a frivolent demeanor. If video games took this issue seriously they would AT LEAST create a believable context that communicates the struggle to the player, not prech to them.
I've literally never met anyone with any of these ideas in real life. If I did, I'd assume they're American. I also would laugh.
The fact that one of the worst companions ever written, Taash, was writing by the head senior writer at Bioware, is hilarious. It is so bad that it seems like they were making fun of the ideology, so ironic.
This cut of dialogue is like a modern torture device…
Also, those journalists don't pretend anything they wanna push it too. Although, how much of it is personal and how much company dictated I couldn't tell. I haven't trusted "official" critics since many years now but I also take player reviews with a lot of salt. It always is best to not get yourself too influenced by what others say and make your own impressions and conclusions.
Right down to the Medieval face piercings that were common amongst they/them of the time.
Playing Kingdom Come Deliverance, which has great dialogue and characters, and watching this couldn't be a bigger contrast. It's just astoundingly poor writing in Veilguard, and it's the result of forcing an ideology on the player, when they want to enjoy a FANTASY GAME and world.
It honestly just feels like the writers have tiktok brain rot. I wouldn't mind if they added their politics to the game as long as they wrote it better.
Even if identity politics were reserved to character creation, celebrating body mutilation is sick!! Screw this game and the activists.
I identify as non buyinary.
Thank good i did not buy this shit
Its just so tiring. And now half the games are AI generated. All creativity and world building is gone.
Wdym? This is history. It's just still being written.
A game should remain a game, it is suposed to be fun for god sake. I am so tired of this woke bullshit…I am not having it anymore.
First dragon age game I'm not buying.
One thing that always strikes me with these fantasy characters is compared to real history for example the battle of towton we have skeletons with shattered teeth from biting down all day before they died. Meaning whatever they experienced was so stressful their teeth shattered. Compare that to the personalities and characters they've written you get the sense they'd collapse mentally from even the lack of basic necessities. They don't feel like they have any mental fortitude at all.
So why does this neither-man-nor-woman person act so much like a woman?
Metatron is the God of wisdom
Can I skip all these scenes or is it badly baked into the main story.?
Now I want MKGA to be a real game.
This game is not just politics, it's a badly written in other aspects. Dialogues are miserable. Back then I was stopping and listening my companions and npcs talking because BW banter was greatest in gaming, in both DA and ME, loved those moments. Now I just continue going and fighting or just skip VA part of them explaining everything to the player. Exposition every f-n time. And dumbest puzzles are explained to the player too. What is wrong with those devs. Do they put their own representation of intelligence into the game? Only thing that keeps me going is how locations looks and promise of good finale as even critical reviews mentions it being the greatest in BW history. I will challenge that opinions.
Considering how hard the thing flopped sales wise and it being the second flop in a row (after Anthem). BioWare may soon not be around to mess the Mass Effect universe. BioWare Montreal was axed for Andromeda, and it sold far better.
They had a trans character in dragon age inquisition. But it was never thrown in your face, krem was a side character. This is all in your face and overly pushed and terribly written.
I won't be buying this Demofascist crap.
Those character reactions were so annoying that I couldn't even stand watching streams of the game.
Dragin Age Veilguard is so bad this MF takin about it?
What's next… Council of Trent?
We elected Trump because of this garbage.
I did this as an experiment and also to gain some understanding but I specifically typed in google that non-Binary people are hurting the LGBTQ community and fucking google AI responded saying that they don't, the first thing it said right at the top of my screen. So even AI is on the gender pollotics train lol
Again I did this as an experiment as I have no knowledge of any of this stuff and usually keep well away LOL
Apologising is not enough – thou must mortify thy flesh!!
How did this shit get past the drawing board….
I will add unless you choose your prnouns or select a transgender, and I have over 100 hours in this game so far, it seems like the gender stuff is just Taash. I haven't heard or seen any other character talk or mention this stuff other than Taash. So it's not really the whole game it's your interactions with Taash.
Darvin doesn't say anything, Neve doesn't say anything, Bellara doesn't say anything, Harding doesn't say anything, Lucanis doesn't say anything and Emmrich doesn't say anything. It comes up only when relating to Taash. In my time with the game again over 100 hours this is what I have experienced.
😅I’m also a gamer from the 80s ❤ ya bro!!!
But he Metron that’s only one character in the whole damn game that does that. It’s not what the games about. By the way, I love your channel.
FromSoft is still on point… hope they stay that way 🙏
Dragon age: the veilguard?
More like: Dragon Aids: Feelings on Guard.
Sorry but that game is a waste of your time
