Tehri Dam is one of the Biggest Dam in Asia. It is the tallest dam in India and the 11th tallest in the world. It is around 260.5 metres high and 592 metres long. The government started the Tehri dam project in 1969. However, it wasn’t until 1990 that the government transferred the project to the Tehri hydro dam Corporation (THDC) for its rehabilitation work. It is part of the Tehri Dam & Hydro Power Project on tributary of Ganga River ie. Bhagirathi River coming from the Himalayas at Gaumukh Glacier In Gangotri.
Due to the formation of this dam, the Tehri lake formed. This lake led to the submergence of over 24 villages while 88 others were also affected. The town of Old Tehri was also completely submerged, and the state provided all the villagers’ rehabilitation to New Tehri.
Tehri Dam is located in Tehri Garhwal district of Uttarakhand India. Tehri jheel is also a main attraction for tourists. this is a very beautiful place in Uttarakhand.
