Ukraine has recently deployed a large force to attack Russia’s Kursk region, temporarily overlooking hotspots in Donetsk. Ukrainian soldiers in Kursk are rotated every 10 days, while those in Donetsk are only relieved after 25 days, creating a difference in endurance levels. Kyiv has deployed its two most elite brigades, equipped with modern German and American tanks, to Kursk. This decision has faced opposition from Ukraine’s military leadership, with many considering it a mistake to focus forces on Kursk, especially as Russia is gaining the upper hand in Donetsk. Meanwhile, Russian forces have made significant progress in Donbass, seizing more key territory in October. The attacks on Kursk have come at a heavy cost for Ukraine, with nearly 30,000 troops and substantial equipment lost.
